What a great party! I can safely start the review this way and know that most, if not everyone who was there will agree. This was the 2nd year that the promoters of Eyes Wide Shut (The Commission) and Red October (Red Ants) joined forces to provide premium entertainment for the masses, and just in time too because we had been starving for something different from the regular nightclub scene. That being said, guys and gals came out in their numbers in some of their hottest black outfits, and ready to wine! Red Ants added their touch to the entrance of the party, which was completely decorated in red, with hallways lined by promotional stalls. On the inside we were greeted by a large venue that was almost full just after midnight. The dance floor was elaborately decorated with a high tech lighting system, complete with a cooling smoke machine that offered much welcomed blasts of cold air as the night heated up. The Eyes Wide Shut masquerade theme was in full effect with many patrons donning the trademark masks. The crowd was still warming up when we reached, patronizing the well-stocked premium bar and slowly, but surely building a vibe. We weren't worried by the apparent demure behavior on display because we knew that with free top notch liquor flowing all night, it was only a matter of time before the jamishness began! As predicted, the beginning of the party was no indication of the middle or end. About an hour in, the crowd started to loosen up and they were helped by DJs XTC and High Fidelity/Less Than Zero, who covered a wide range of selections that kept the crowd moving. The Carnival-like vibe of the party had partygoers wining and getting on bad to any and everything that was played from Machel to Michael! We kept going till the very last Bob tune played and the boys in blue (police) kindly escorted some patrons from the dance floor, and helped them make their way to the exit. By this time we were starving, having worked up an appetite on the dance floor. Thankfully, the promoters had us covered with an impressive array of food on sale. After inhaling a Bake & Shark we were greeted by another pleasant surprise, as we were chauffeur driven to our car by Stadium security on their golf cart. Now we don't think this was a service the promoters provided (we could be wrong), but after all that wining, it was definitely a highlight not to have to make the long trek to the car on foot. No doubt, we left the party in good spirits and eagerly looking forward to Carnival 2k9 with Red Ants and Eyes and Wide Shut. Teekay for the TJJ Fam. ==================================== |
