So the Carnival fever high in the air and already we stepping into Carnival Tuesday... yuh believe??!! Now its ya bwoy D Young Juice alongside Amiel, and we moving through club Zen to check out the activities and festivities of the annual Glow fete. 'The Changing of the Guard' (which we spoke of in 2006 and 2007) continues... no more Mobs 2 OR Jenny's Carpark for Glow! The rebirth saw this one time carnival staple now move to the world famous Zen nightclub. Yes, Glow is going indoors!
Arriving around 11 PM we were astonished by the short lines outside the club but say what, it early. Entering the club, we first took notice the overall ambiance. There were a number of white drapes used which was complimented by the attire of patrons. The ever so popular black light at these must wear white events as always, added that special touch. Remember peoples, if you didn't get the memo ... you must wear white!
Besides the usual characters that chose to be different and stand out by not wearing white, we also noticed a lot of foreigners on de inside as well. This was made clear to us by the amount of bandanas we saw, each portraying the various nationalities present. There was a VIP section which was to the left of the club with a bar being used as the separator between it and general. VIP was much less to be desired we must admit, for it was just the same as "general". Suggestion - upstairs should have been "VIP". Then again, either way, the vybz still will be nice ... despite "general", "VIP" or wait we can't forget "VVIP" ... boop boop!! Around this time the DJs on the 1's and 2's were Richard Simply Smooth, John Boy & Ezzelle.
As the Glow crowd slowly picked up, it was time for live performances."Love How Yuh Wining" Ziggy Rankin took the stage, followed by "Bashment Freaks" Jamesy P and "Pumpin'" Peter Ram as they warmed up feters for the big bands. The action continued with the Soca Queen Destra and her band Atlantik, performing her full repertoire of hits. Partygoers were further entertained by Destra's popular dancers and the brave souls that chose to ride the "Saddle". As all anxiously awaited the fire king Bunji Garlin & Asylum band to hit the stage, we had to take off to another Fetealotathon® event at the Queen's Park Oval.... Eyes Wide Shut Carnivalé. So what's in store next year for this one time carnival staple? We'll just have to wait and see.
