our full coverage of our World Cup 2006 travels ... the matches, the fans, the
fetes, the limes and even our voyages to different cities and countries. We had
our up's and down's along the way, but we must say, "It was a once in a life
time experience!" One minute we were jammin' to the Laventille Rhythm Section
in Germany with drinks in hand, the next minute our pores were raising as we proudly
sang our National Anthem at Trinidad & Tobago opening match against Sweden.
TJJ crew are some serious Road Warriors ... Interrrrrr-Outtaaaaaa Nationallllllll.

ESPNSoccernet:
"Trinidad and Tobago predictably failed in their bid to reach the World Cup
knockout phase. Yet, while they might not have won a match, or even scored a goal,
the Soca Warriors will leave Germany with a smile, their Dignity and a host of
new friends..... The Dutchman has been around long enough to know a country
with a population of little more than a million - the smallest ever to reach the
final stages of the biggest tournament on the planet - had already performed wonders
in Germany." | |

Soccer Channel: "KAISERSLAUTERN,
Germany (AP) - Soon after the final whistle, Dwight Yorke led his Trinidad and
Tobago teammates to the corner of the stadium to salute their fans. Players tossed
shirts and sweatbands into the crowd and Yorke even wrapped a towel around his
waist and threw his shorts to a lucky fan. Players and fans alike were savoring
every last minute of a World Cup that made people finally notice the tiny twin-island
Caribbean nation. Trinidad and Tobago accomplished a lot in its first World Cup
appearance, earning its first point, putting a scare into more talented opponents
and playing well enough to earn bigger contracts on better teams for many of its
players." | |

FIFA.com:
"Showing great determination and resolve to make up for their inexperience
and lack of resources, T&T will still look back on these two weeks in Germany
as a success and a tiny nation can take enormous pride in their achievements.
Just to be part of football's quadrennial football showpiece was a triumph in
itself for a team representing just 1.1 million souls and nobody should feel ashamed
at their results. It is worth stating as well that they performed more impressively
than other teams with stronger credentials. And to survive all but ten of the
180 minutes combined against Sweden and England was no mean feat considering the
generosity they had offered opponents in their warm-up matches which had many
people fearing they could be embarrassed in the competition itself. The lack of
a single goal in the three games was a disappointment but this was a tough group
and the positives (ie, the defensive performances) far outweigh the lack of potency
shown in front of goal." |
