It's 5:40am, still dark outside. We were zipping along the quiet Brooklyn streets on my way into Manhattan. Finally one of the most highly anticipated boat rides of the summer, Silent Morning "We In The City" Breakfast boat ride is here! Though I have been looking forward to this one, it's hard to drum up enthusiasm while you are still half asleep and it's dark out. But I did my best. I'm a soca junkie. This is my duty.
We park our cars and slowly make our way to Pier 17 at the South Street seaport. The sun begins to rise, illuminating a large group of sexy looking soca revellers gathered together on the pier, all wearing sunglasses in anticipation of a beautiful day. After a little time spent greeting friends, it was time to board the boat.
The Atlantica Yacht is a large vessel with 3 levels. Our first mission was to scout out the dance floor. We secured chairs on the top deck and headed below for some breakfast. After a tasty bake and saltfish (there were turkey sandwiches as well) we made our way to the well air-conditioned second floor for a drink. Conac & pineapple in hand at a decent price, it was finally time to go back up to the top deck for some revelry.
The sun was shining and the views of New York City were gorgeous as the boat meandered up and down the Hudson. The liquor was flowing and bottle soon littered the ground. This was not a social ride, it was pure vibes & bacchanal from beginning to end. Here a wine, there a wine, everywhere a wine, wine! The DJs started off the day on a high note and never faltered, shout outs to Dr. Wax, Natural Freaks and of course Back 2 Basics. The rhythm section just augmented the vibes. You know the DJ has you in the palm of his hand when he can play Sesame Street songs on the boat and have people wining down d'place. "C is for cookie!" LOL. Welcome back Tony Cross!
Although there was also a bar on the top deck, a lot of people chose to use bar downstairs. It was an opportunity to sit in some a/c and cool off before heading back up to the packed top deck. It was a hot and sunny day and I was soon jealous of the ladies who chose to follow the directive and wear their sexy swimwear on the boat. Women were converting their maxi dresses into minis and both genders kept removing articles of clothing as the morning continued in an effort to beat the heat. But the top deck was where it was at, so we suffered through for the sake of the party. Just think of it as a workout to get body-ready for the parkway! LOL! Shout out to Trixie Diva, the only fashionista who could pull off sequined hot shorts first thing in the morning!
By the time we pulled into the pier a little after noon, I knew that this one would go down in the soca history books. I could have stayed on the boat all afternoon, the vibes were that sweet. Silent Morning was without question one of the best boat rides of the summer! Shout out to Peter and the entire New York Caribbean Vibes crew, thank you for having us. We are definitely looking forward to next year!
