Southern Comfort, borrowing inspiration from the maverick era of brave men, the line is reflective of the choice of the small businessmen to forge ahead ad remain resilient in this turbulent economic climate. “It’s a tough time for business but style is never dead”, chides Gregory Mills, who always felt he was a renegade in the fashion world.“ Caribbean designers are inherently brave. We have a history, long and treasures of charting into well bordered territories and insist we have something to say in our own unique way”, says Mills.
“We focused on the sleeves in this collection”, said Coline Baptiste-Mills, who conceptualised and executed the line. Armbands and vests are the predominant element of the collection. Black is the predominant hue. The finest wools were used in this collection dupioni silks, Sea Island cotton; no costs were spared. All fabric was sourced locally.
The nation’s first couple of style Gregory Mills and wife Coline Baptiste-Mills are the designers behind Millhouse. They have established a reputation of bringing the clean lines and bespoke sophistication of slim fit to Caribbean design.
The design duo opted to unveil their Holiday Collection instead of the Spring/Summer 2010 collection at this time. Their Summer 2010 Collection this year is called Tie Marie, inspired by our rebellious indigenous flora. The collection will be unveiled at the Islands of the World Fashion Week, scheduled for October this year in Bahamas; just in time for the Tourist Season November to April.
