After a very successful Carnival 2k9 season where he performed the hit collab Rum and Roti and becoming the newest frontline vocalist of Shurwayne Winchester and his band, Y.O.U.; Da Ma$tamind is ready to release another tune to take you right through the summer and right into Carnival 2010.
And he starts it off with an enticing tune that he describes as mid tempo, fast enough to take a sweet wicked wine to, but slow enough to keep your feet moving in a steady ‘chip to chip’ motion along whatever Soca road you may be traveling.
Aided and abetted with parts of the verses by his brother from another mother Devon “Lyrikal” Martin, Shawn says that it was while doing household chores the chorus for this bouncy Bajan influenced track came to him.
“Why not write a song where heaven is filled with every Caribbean Man’s dream, 70 x7 bumpers awaiting a capable wining companion?”
After that it was a matter of recording and the rest will definitely be a part of many people’s summer wining history.
The publics’ response and continued support from his loved ones has given Shawn the confidence he needed to fully embrace this new step as an entertainer alongside his current and still thriving career as a producer. In fact he thinks his production skills puts him at an advantage when it comes to recording, as he now completely understands being on both sides of the mixing board. Though he did mention that the future will see him working as an artiste with other producers, he is keeping secret just who they might be.
Wuk-Up Heaven is definitely just the kind of fore runner that party lovers will request over and over again as they hit the clubs, the boat rides and the summer carnivals from Barbados to Miami all 2009 long.
Finding someone with the blessing of being multitalented in the music business is not that uncommon. What is rare though, is seeing someone who thoroughly enjoys everything to do with music, blossom and bloom so richly right before your eyes as Da Ma$tamind is currently doing.
Truth be told we are not even sure who is having more fun during this process, Shawn or us the lucky audience who get to reap the benefits of this pure talent happily chipping from the background to center stage.
All that can be said for sure is that there is more to come…more wining, more music, more revelry and certainly more ladies and gents just lovin’ up a visit to Wuk-Up Heaven... at least... 70x7...
