The journey to Clarendon College for the grand finale of this season’s RE School Tour, was a long and winding one. But when the tour bus got to the top of the hill in Chapleton, Clarendon, scores of students rushed to get a glimpse of their favourite entertainers.
The entertainers comprising Etana, Konshens, D’Angel, Prodigal Son, Tifa, Goddy Goddy, Chino, and guest performer Pressure, drove home the point of the tour’s theme, Abstinence Mek Sense.
With MC Jerry “The Vibesmaster’ Davy in full control, the tour kicked off with a performance from the May Pen based Hypa Active Clique dance group. The 2008 Dancin Dynamites winners demonstrated their acrobatic and well choreographed dance moves, much to the delight of the students.
It was gospel deejay Prodigal Son who got the energy levels of the students bubbling just from his mere intro. He delivered the chart topping single Head Cyaan Hot So which saw the students taking over choir duties. D’Angel has been a hit with the students throughout this season, and First Lady, Blaze and Stronger only reinforced her popularity with the student population. The dancehall artiste was almost to tears when she gave a heart rendering and passionate plea to the students to follow their dreams, avoid temptation and to keep focused on their school work. Armed with his Chaka Chai Chai hit, Goddy Goddy took church right into the school yard. Other creditable performances came from Pressure with his hit Love and Affection; Tifa with Bottom of the Barrel and Crawny Gal; Chino with Rave All Night and Protected (the girls almost dragged him off the stage); Konshens firing wildly with This Means Money, Winner and Good Girl Gone Bad; and Etana, who blazed the stage with I Am Not Afraid, Roots and Warrior Love. Clarendon based cultural artiste Ethiopian also performed. After their performances, the entertainers interacted with the students, signed autographs and did photo opportunities. The RE School Tour kicked off in March and made stops at Edith Dalton James High, Queens High, and Mona High before coming to an end at Clarendon College on April 28. The next season of the RE School Tour will kick off in September 2009.
