Fete with the Saints has done it again. Four years after relocating from their Fredrick street campus, to "down grounds" the school's recreational facility, the quality, atmosphere, and service, remain exceptional. One of five events that I attended this weekend with the Pumpers crew, and I can safely say that FWTS sets the standard for all inclusive carnival fetes.
As always, in keeping with our first in last out practice , we buss the tape at 6:00 PM on the dot. This is the best time to have the fete, and all of the top of the line cuisine that it offers, all to yourself! I won't list them all, but we tried everything from roti, to souse, ribs, horse meat, and I can go on all day on the food alone. Simply put, FWTS provides exceptional value, for the price of admission. Once we got food out of the way, it was off to the bar. The bar did not disappoint. The service was exceptional, and the high end brands where there. Some higher end Angostura rums, either at the regular bars, or as a branded tent, would have been sweet, for the rum drinkers among us
Nailah Blackman kicked off the live performances around the 7:15 PM mark, performing her 2018 hits 'O' Lawd Oye', 'Sokah', and her hits from last year as well. Kes The Band, a personal favorite, because of their musicality and sheer joy they have on stage, came up next. Kes himself has a top 5 carnival 2018 anthems as well, 'Hello', with which he began his set, and had the crowd in the palm of his hands. The Ultimate Rejects gave an energetic performance, for which they have become very well known.
Then it was time for the Soca Kingdom... Just when you thought there wasn't another level that the crowd could get to, here came MM and his full band with dancers, to prove that there was indeed another level. Some say the Road March race is over, since the release of his contender 'Soca Kingdom', just the day before. FWTS was the first place, anyone, anywhere in the world, got to experience this one live on stage. The grand master, Super Blue, also joined him on stage to perform this song. Certain stations, (I won't call any names ), literally had this song on constant rotation for HOURS, since its release, so that by Saturday evening, the entire crowd already knew the song! Less is more, when it comes to describing this performance. The Saints were happy to have MM, and I might add, he was not at his Alma Mater's fete, the following day
Patrice Roberts followed closely after Machel, and kept the energy high with her top 5 track for the season, and road march contender, 'Sweet Fuh Days', along with her considerably extensive discography of smash hits. Patsy looking sweet fuh days this year fuh real! Kes also took the stage with Patrice, to perform their 2018 collaboration, 'Like It Like That' on the 2AM Project riddim. Talk about BIG tune! But wait, she wasn't finished... Lyrikal also joined in on the action with their 2018 collaboration "Criminal Wine". FWTS host, Rome, closed out the live performances with a crowd favourite, 2017 Soca Parang hit 'Annie'.
This was definitely the largest crowd I have seen at this fete so far, and it remains a must-do on the carnival circuit. With an increase in numbers, one area of improvement, would be to increase food prep in certain tents, to ensure even more options are available, even after the final performance, like we have become accustomed to. With superb entertainment, bathrooms, cuisine, drinks, and atmosphere, what more can we ask for. FWTS remains the All Inclusive carnival fete to beat. See you next year Saints!
