Some consider July to be the apex of Summer. In Trinidad and Tobago, July is the beginning of our Carnival season or what we call Band Launch season. Colourful feathers, gorgeous ladies and stunning gents hit the stage to showcase TRIBE, BLISS and The Lost TRIBE 2018 presentations at this year's Festival of the Bands.
CROWD - 9
If it is one thing we Trinbagonians know to do; it is how to fete. Festival of the Bands did not disappoint, there was a large turnout with lots of beautiful patrons throughout the venue.
VENUE & ACCESSIBILITY - 9
St. Mary's College Grounds provided ample space for the Festival of the Bands. Due to the lack of wind, it got pretty humid around the stage as persons gathered in anticipation of seeing the showcase of costumes. Water and other drinks were readily available so the heat was tolerable. Garbage bags were placed throughout the venue for disposal of any trash. Point lost for the parking situation.
VIBE - 8
Like Machel Montano said, "Feting is we name". As the sun set on Port of Spain, St. Mary's College Grounds came alive with anxious persons flooding the area to secure their spots close to the stage. As the drinks poured, the waistlines loosened. The music was on point and definitely added to the fete-like atmosphere. The emcees for the event were energetic and kept the crowd engaged and well entertained. If this was any indication of what is to be expected on the road for Carnival 2018... the anticipation is high.
FOOD & DRINK - 9
The event was made up of two sections: VIP and General. While the General Section had different booths with shots and other drinks, it was a "Bring Yuh Cooler" type of section. VIP was drinks inclusive.

The promoters and staff did a great job at the Festival of the Bands.
This was my first Band Launch as a photographer, but even better yet, as a TJJ photographer. It's amazing to see how well known and well loved the 'TJJ' brand was at the event. I'd like to give a big shout out to The Sammy Juice who had the confidence in my work as a photographer to offer me this amazing opportunity and I'd like to Shout out Dre aka The Carnival Ref who assisted in sorting out some minor hiccups in a very timely manner. Of course, I must big up our TRIBE family for executing yet another amazing event. Team TJJ is looking forward to C2K18.
RIP Devon Matthews. Gone but not forgotten.
