October 13, 2015 – Port of Spain, Trinidad... As the Noble Douglas Dance Company (NDDCI)continues its 30th anniversary celebrations, Trinidad and Tobago’s foremost modern contemporary dance company marks this place of new beginnings as it looks to the future with its 2015 dance season, Threshold. A cast of young apprentices, primarily selected from Noble Douglas’ Lilliput Children’s Theatre, will perform alongside experienced principal dancers to present both new and classic choreography. The production opens on Saturday October 17, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. and continues on Sunday October 18, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. at Queen’s Hall.

The company celebrates life in Delton Frank’s 2015, folk-inspired piece, Ehcoes of Lyfe.

For this pivotal season, the company’s founder and dance pioneer, Douglas, celebrates the support and dedication of the longest standing member of the NDDCI, Allan Balfour. “We are thankful that he stood with us throughout the years. He continues to be an important part of the organization,” reflected Douglas on Balfour’s contributions. In his 2015 choreography, Threshold, Balfour works to express the concept of crossing over to another life or a better place as he explores the rewards of spiritual life, which can be attained when decisions are made at the threshold. “As a founding member of the NDDCI, this 30th anniversary is exciting for me. I am able to contribute to another phase of the company by choreographing while also nurturing itsnext generation of dancers,” shared Balfour.

Allan Balfour’s 2015 choreography, Threshold, pushes dancers to a place of profound decisions…to a gateway of new beginnings.

The company eagerly welcomed two new choreographers to the NDDCI fold, Megan Navarro and Delton Frank. Both Navarro and Frank, who had performed with the NDDCI briefly in the past, created pieces especially for Threshold. Navarro’s highly energetic choreography, Surge, portrays streams of movement, sudden powerful forward or upward movements. The physically demanding piece pushes the dancers to a heightened awareness of feeling each other in the dance space. A folk flair is added to the 2015 season, with Frank’s Echoes of Lyfe. Performed to the rhythms of traditional African drumming and percussion, Echoes of Lyfe is set against the modern and traditional aspects of community/tribal life in a place that is yet to be discovered. It reveals the very essence of life, from the right of passage to submission to death, showing struggle, celebration and the isolation of mankind in a crowded world. The season’s new works will be supported by the classic choreography of Douglas, Arlene Frank and Penelope Kalloo.
