Cast members of JCS Entertainment's Mahalia: A Gospel Musical after the Friday 15th May Gala performance at the Central Bank Auditorium

As the JCS Entertainment production of Mahalia: A Gospel Musical sweeps into its third run this weekend (Thursday 21st to Sunday 24th May -Little Carib Theatre), the production team has released information related to its ongoing Charity Silent Collection.

During the last two weeks of shows, the musical has taken its audience to church, not only through the uplifting and moving performances of classic gospel songs, but through its nightly Charity Silent Collection during the song 'Dig A Little Deeper' sung by the entire cast.

In the show's printed program it states that all contributions from the traditional basket-passing collection will benefit the St. Agnes Anglican Church Organ Fund and ITNAC (Is There Not A Cause) to help purchase school supplies for local children.

Thus far, the musical has inspired audiences to donate generously to these two charities.

"The last two weeks were glorious. The support of our patrons has been heart-warming. Over the last two weeks our Charity Silent Collection totalled TT$23,618.00. Half has been given to ITNAC (Is There Not A Cause) to work with underprivileged children and the other half to the St. Agnes Parish to assist in fulfilling their need for a Church Organ. St Agnes has been very supportive in providing rehearsal space," wrote JCS Entertainment Creative Director John Henry Smith III on the production company's official Facebook.com page.

In response, one subscriber to JCS Entertainment's page commended the effort. Earl AngelinusHarewood wrote, "What a great idea Uncle John and Bother Chris!!!! You are truly making the people of St. Agnes achieve their goal. This is truly a great example of corporate social giving. Keep up the great work guys it is a fitting tribute to many families who rely on St. Agnes for Sunday services and week day prayer services."

Rev. Marsha Joseph, the Rector of the St. Agnes Anglican Church in St. James expressed her sentiments about the donation. "We were astounded by the gesture of having a collection at the performances for St. Agnes - that they would think of doing something like that - and we are very appreciative of the thoughtfulness and generosity of Mr. Smith and his team."

ITNAC representative Avonelle Hector-Joseph shared her gratitude on behalf of the NGO, “I am happy and excited that we were chosen. There are many other charities that are just as deserving and I am honoured that we are chosen. I think that people want to be apart of something good and this musical offers an opportunity for immediate contributions - you don't have to go to the bank or write a cheque, the basket comes and as the spirit moves - you give."

With last weekend's Central Bank Auditorium run, more and more patrons have been inspired to share their reviews of the musical with several messages pouring in from across the social media landscape and via email.

Rhona Edwards posted, "Best production I have been too in a very long time! A must see!" Kern Chapman shared, "If you haven't seen this, then you haven't seen anything yet! #‎mahalia" Others like Brian Weekes committed their time and assistance to the musical. "This show needs to reach the entire nation. I will personally contribute to facilitate that objective." ‬

Special praise was shared for the performance of lead cast member Llettesha Sylvester in the role of adult Mahalia Jackson, who was dubbed by JCS Entertainment as "...a new star in the firmament and she is not a Diva... Humble and Super Talented."

Onika Martin-Duke agreed, "Amazing talent we need to support her." RhonaMohon concurred, "Powerful and beautiful! Well done Ms. Sylvester," as did Cindy Asevero, "She was amazing. I loved seeing her onstage and hearing her sing."

Limited edition Mahalia Musical posters remain available at all performances (TT$25) along with Mahalia Musical t-shirts (TT$100) on sale. Pricing discounts are also available for the show, including a special ticket fee for seniors 60 years of age and up (TT$125) and juniors 16 years and under (TT$75). There is also a special discount for church groups or any group with ten or more members attending on any show night (TT$200 per ticket). Regular tickets cost TT$250.
