"Come To Jamaica And Feel Alright!" - but only if you are white, then you can come over mingle with some dreds and make friends with a small girl with braids who will fall asleep in the car on the way home with your daughter and end commercial... come on, you know you've seen that one. "Come to Aruba"-but only if you are white, then you can come over, snorkle, eat dinner served by locals, be amazed by the beautiful natural scenery, dance the night away and then come home... but only if you are white.
Us red, brown, and yellow folk apparently don't go on vacation. No no no, we don't want to go to the Caribbean. I think the only time I have ever seen a commercial with ethnic people in it was when I saw an advertisement for vacationing in Puerto Rico. This is the one and only time I have ever seen a commercial with dark haired olive complexioned people. Does anyone else see what is wrong with this picture? Will advertising change now that the US has a Black President?

Well I see a posting on craiglist last week for "Want to be my black friend" it was posted by GQ writer who realized that his diversity of friends were just white.

I don't believe that these ads are intended for a negative purpose. I would dissect it to believe that locals/non-whites are and will visit. On the other hand Caucasians would be a vast majority of targeted visitors, that is, people who have not visited and to entice them to !!!
The way we look at things sometimes makes us have a downside view. I have tried to disengage myself from thinking this way and have found it very rewarding to be able to get a positive feedback from many things. Being non-judgmental is the key to better findings. :) |

Chin Lee not one to improve Carnival
Published: March 1st, 2009 I am quite astonished that Howard Chin Lee still hasn’t learnt from the numerous false promises he made during his time as a minister. While he was Minister of National Security, Chin Lee promised he would “smoke all the terrorists (criminals) out of their holes.” Well we all know the crime situation in T&T today. In reality it is the so-called terrorists who have succeeded in smoking him out of his hole at the ministry. Another promise he made, this time when he was Minister of Tourism, was T&T “quickly becoming the tourism capital of the world.” Again we all know T&T is at the bottom of Caribbean tourism, and if you are not aware of this fact, just ask anyone in the tourism sector, especially in Tobago. Now, to my astonishment, he is promising to “make Carnival bigger and better.” Chin Lee has delivered nothing of any value or substance. Nothing he ever promised came to reality. I expect nothing different with his latest promise. The country would be better served if the Government appoints someone with an in-depth knowledge of our Carnival product and how best to develop it, but that person is unequivocally not Chin Lee.\ Pierre Small Via e-mail |

Tourism makes money for locals. More people means more money. Most tourist happen to be from NA and Europe and happen to be white. That is why People of Color are called the minority. We need to market to anyone willing to spend... black or white.
