The 47th annual New York Caribbean Carnival Celebration Of Caribbean Pride and Cultutre was all that and much more!
The 5- day Cultural extravaganza of outdoor concerts, cuisine, colorful Carnival costumes and competitions culminated in the most spectacular presentation of pageantry, heart throbbing music, food and a gigantic dose of fun and merriment for WIADCA’s New York Caribbean Carnival Parade as one million spectators went dizzy with excitement
Brooklyn, NY — Friday September 5th: The members of the West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA) are thankful that 2014 Carnival celebrations will go down in the record books as one of the most enjoyable and safest Carnival seasons in a very long time. No incidents were reported by NYPD during the Parade or after the festivities.
Consistent with prior years, the Carnival was preceded by 4 days and nights of cultural events on the grounds of the Brooklyn Museum, followed by a special VIP Champagne Breakfast on Labor Day as hundreds networked and "rubbed shoulders" with dignitaries and grand marshals - Mayor DeBlasio, Borough President, Eric Adams, DA Ken Thompson and CEO of Ad Agency giant, Monique Nelson, NYPD Commissioner-William Bratton and Chief of the Department, Phillip Banks before joining grand marshal -Governor Andrew Cuomo at Schenectady Ave & Eastern Parkway. The special line-up of powerful leaders lead off the Carnival Parade of over 70 Floats, marching bands, other groups and thousands of costumed masqueraders that depicted every imaginable creation that showcased true Caribbean/West Indian culture. Scores of huge flatbed tractor trailers stacked high with gigantic music systems provided the chest thumping music the prompted the frenzied gyrations by everyone within ear-shot. Many celebrities turned out to enjoy the food and spectacle, including a winner of NBC’s The Voice - Tessanne Chin and world renowned reggae artist Wayne Marshall, both of whom graced WIADCA's grandstand located directly across from the Brooklyn Museum.
