It’s finally here!! It’s the climax to weeks of partying, revelry, and weekly sojourns to the Mas Camp.  Bacchanal Jamaica hits the road this Sunday 27 April, bringing the carnival season to its zenith, but also signifying its end.

Twelve spectacular costumes and four accompanying T Shirt sections will see over 2,000 revelers, representing various sponsors, playing “pretty mas” on the streets of Kingston.  The road march led by the King costume – “Lord of the Goban” and the Queen costume – “Pheonix”,  is scheduled to depart Arthur Wint Drive at 10:30 a.m., work its way on to Mountain View Avenue, then to Old Hope Road and on to Lady Musgrave Road.  The band will stop for lunch at approximately 1: 15 pm.  After lunch the band will head to Trafalgar Road and from there to Waterloo Road, West Kings House Road and then on to Constant Spring Road. After passing through Half Way tree the band will head back up Hope Road and on to Trafalgar Road and Lady Musgrave Road. It will then continue on Seaview Avenue to Old Hope Road, Mountain View and finally will end at the Mas Camp on Arthur Wint Drive. Music on the road will be supplied by a cadre of DJs plus Kes the band.

“The Road Parade is really the reason why we have the weeks of activities that make up the carnival season”, explains Charmaine Franklin, Director of Bacchanal.   This is the final celebration, the last hurrah, where after weeks of preparation and building momentum through the activities at the Mas Camp and other parties, the revelers get a chance to explode, release all frustrations, leave the normal day to day pressures behind, and truly celebrate life.  This is what Carnival all over the world is about.  The costumes provide the spectacle that bring thousands to the road to watch as this celebration takes place and we want to encourage more and more persons to come out and view this grand finale”

“More than adequate security will be put in place to ensure the safety of the revelers as well as spectators” mentioned Michael McMorris, another Bacchanaal director, “and while we encourage our audience to enjoy the music and join us in the party, we want to remind themnot to come into the band as it passes. Of course, as is wise in all public places, we urge everyone to be aware of their surroundings and the persons beside them and to be careful with valuables on the road”.

The entire parade is expected to last for eight hours.  Persons wishing to see the route can visit the official website at www.bacchanaljamaica.com. They can also go to www.landairsea.com to find the exact location of the band in real time.  Username  - KingTracker and password – Roadmarch.
