2012 was a tremendous year for sport in Trinidad and Tobago in the year that the country marked its 50th year of independence. Although the athletes were clearly the stars who shone brightly on the national, regional and international arenas, the fans also played a significant role in their success. Not only did the Red White and Black fly proudly but we collectively Represent Win and Believe in our potential to be successful in sport as a nation.
As such, the 2012 Spirit of Sport Awards will present the most prestigious honour – Sport Performance of the Year – to the athlete who garners the most votes in the online polls. Fans have a chance to vote on facebook and on the Sports Company website for their favourite athlete. The nominees for this award are:
George Bovell – 16 medals in World Cup campaign
Lalonde Gordon – Double Olympic Bronze in 400m, 4x400m
Sunil Narine – Bowling Sachin Tendulkar during IPL campaign with KKR
Njisane Phillip – Olympic Debut in Sprint and Keirin
Richard Thompson – Anchor Leg of Olympic Bronze in 4x100m
Keshorn Walcott – Olympic Gold in Javelin
