SO! After a however long hiatus from the TJJ life I came back and what better way to celebrate my homecoming than with “Caution”. This was my first ever Caution experience ever (lucky for me because this was the last time Island People would be doing it) and I was on the scene with the infamous Jokey Juice. This year the promoters decided to have the party on-board the Harbour Master, a three level Bajan turned Trini cruise boat that is notorious for delivering exceptional party experiences. In the twelve years of the Caution’s annual occurrences, a better venue couldn’t have chosen for the last Caution party ever.
As I arrived in the car park at first glance, I have to admit that Caution 2012 was not looking like it would live up to its reputation as one of the “must go” staples of a Trini Summer. Parking was organized well enough however, there were some people who were unfortunate enough to get a park in the mud (I know I shudda go earlier). Rain had just fallen a short while ago but the promoters were thoughtful enough to have plastic flooring extended a good way into the car park to accommodate its patrons. It might have just been me but the crowd in the car park had a bit too much testosterone for my liking but you know what they say, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. My impression quickly improved as soon as I set foot on the boat. Whether it was the jaw dropping sight of the remarkable calibre of girls (not to mention the stunning sailor girls at the entrance) or the fact that the crowd was an ideal representation Trinidad and Tobago’s diverse culture; I was now sure that this party was going to be one to remember. I swear all the ladies were just hiding in the boat or something; the first thing that went through my mind was “How d gyal dem tun up an’ ah look so!”
Boarding took a little longer than expected and so did the music but it was worth the wait. Some local celebrities who made appearances included club 51 degrees’ director Dane Lewis and Hyper Hopper. DJ Merry Perry got things pumping with some sweet soca much to the crowd’s approval. Merry took good care of the crowd, my boy played hit after hi from various genres and even included a little throwback session for the slightly older crowd members. He had people partying hard straight up until docking time which was about five thirty in the morning. Although one patron mentioned to me that he could have played RDX – Wine up on the Mashup Riddim a bit more. I agree with her too...that song have powers....
I must say, Island People really delivered once again. The bar was well stocked, service was timely and prices were fair. In particular, I was saved by the bar on the first floor since it had Linx. As a result, the fact that I walked on the boat with two dollars in my wallet (who tell me to do that) wasn’t a problem. Who say debit! Also, Machel Montano’s 3 zerO Platinum Rum was available for TT $400 but I had to pass up that tempting offer since I was on the job. The overall ambience was relaxing yet exhilarating at the same time....and they had gyros on board! The Caution parties are really going to be missed...I vex I now look to start going. But say what, Carnival is right around the corner! (I know...I’m a bit of an optimist) And one band that I’m definitely going make sure and jump up with is Island People because those people know how to party!
