Tobago Artiste To Bring Positive Musical Vibe Amid S.O.E.
Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. September 20, 2011 - Positive messages through musical words of wisdom seem to be the main characteristic in the tracks that are about to be released by Tobagonian artiste, Obediah Thomas.
The 44-year- old vocalist and songwriter is making good of his talent, using it to promote a healthy and positive lifestyle, to all he meets and greets. Through a new album that’s carded to be unleashed for all to embrace on Friday, September 23 at Mount Grace Community Centre in Tobago, Thomas harmonises on several tracks, joined on a few by female singer, Julia Baynes. With her, and even in solo action, Thomas delivers a myriad of strictly positive lyrics atop soothing melodies that’s somewhat reminiscent of the 80’s.
In light of the national state of emergency that’s been ongoing in Trinidad and Tobago for the past month, the album’s release may just be what the doctor ordered according to members of Thomas’ team. They rationalise that Thomas’ rhythmic, positive messages could inject hope into young minds and power into elders that they may see with clarity, reasons to direct all in their care, on positive paths.
Thomas has been a champion for calypso and other traditional Caribbean musical genres since the age of eight. At age 44, he has marked a number of successes, among them, being honored as the most promising calypsonian in Tobago in 1991. Having been a part of the Tobago Hotel circuit as a musician over the past 15 years, Thomas knows what it takes to engage audiences, and he is certainly prepared to engage them further with several brand new, hard hitting yet soothing singles, among them, one he calls Running. He’s calling on those who love music to simply listen with the heart and allow the mind and body to feel- this as he transitions himself from being simply another Tobago island artiste, to charting a new road aimed at gaining national, regional and international recognition.
Friday’s launch is being touted as a must attend event on the smaller of the twin island Republic- this just one day prior to Republic Day celebrations in T&T. Thomas is anxious to give the people of his country positive messages to hold on to and assures that the entry cost which is reasonably priced at $160 per couple, will offer them much more than they ever thought $160 could purchase.
