5 Minutes With Alison Hinds

The one, the only Queen of Soca, Alison Hinds! You know I had to catch one of my favorite singers in action at S.O.B.S in New York (see coverage) and I was willing to do it by any means necessary! So straight from the airport fresh from Notting Hill Carnival in London I went! Alison glittered and dazzled the crowd as usual leaving behind very happy concert goers and an even happier set of TJJers.

Eljon: What is the secret to a good wine?
Alison: Well ... (she thinks for a second) The secret to a good wine is being able to FEEL the wine, you have to FEEL the music.

Eljon: What is the one thing you can't travel without when you're on tour?
Alison: Oh, definitely a good book.
Rae: What are you reading right now?
Alison: Right now I'm reading Danielle Steele.
Eljon: She's good for long flights!

Eljon: Flip flops or stilettos?
Alison: Stilettos! You know ... when they're not killing me!

Eljon: What is your guilty pleasure?
Alison: Sweet things! I love sweet things.

Eljon: What would you be doing if you weren't a singer?
Alison: I would be a translator. I love languages.

Eljon: Do you have a hidden talent?
Alison: (she laughs) I can cross my eyes!
Eljon and Rae: I want to see! (she obliges)

Eljon: What inspires you?
Alison: My daughter ... my family.

Eljon: What made you smile today?
Alison: My daughter and my husband, they make me smile everyday.

Eljon: What is one word that describes you?
Alison: Blessed.

After what was a very long night, Alison stayed and signed autographs and chatted with all her fans. She is truly a Soca Queen!
