Friday Afternoon on the rock and Crop Over is in full swing. Who aint reach yet aint coming. We on the rock for a couple weeks now and it is bare pace, as the locals would say. Right up there on the list of must-attend events for TJJ is the Bathsheba Experience, and we looking forward to this one.
Against my better judgment, (more on this later J )I decided to play fair and take the shuttle into to venue. A very fine Caribbean beauty decides to sit right next to me on the shuttle so the dance off to a very excellent start one time! J We pull up to the venue and I have to admit, I expected a lot more from the decor. The venue itself was not a bad one but I just think there was huge potential for a real WOW factor that was missed. That said, the deck which was the main partying area had a real RoseCastle (my NYC crew would remember!) bounce to it that really added to the vibes. Once someone figured out that the bloomin spotlight on the deck should be turned off, dance was on! Most DJ’s made the deck bounce, the early warm dj like he didn’t realize it was Crop Over. Doh get me wrong, one of the things I enjoy the most about CropOver is that unlike Trini, you can walk into a Carnival Fete and hear all kinds of music, not just soca, but I draw the line at “I like to move it move it” this is not Madagascar up in here breds…. And if I hear Macarana one more time in Barbados I might go mad! But most dj’s got it, Toppin ripped it and High Fidelity Less Than Zero who I was pleasantly suppressed to see, brock down the place too.
What can I say about the bar, Johnny and coconut was flowing just up until about an hour to go, a little disappointing but by then who wasn’t already chungo was not drinking. The food tent could use a little brushing up too, maybe space it out more and with more variety. That aside, when yuh see a woman fall down on the dance floor and instead of helping her up, a man start to wine on it yuh know the dance is nice! This one was top three in vibes for the entire Crop for sure.
So back to the shuttle; Yuh know TJJ have to be the last to leave the dance. When we finally made our way out, the lines for the shuttles were quite extensive so we decided to wait. Well boy, we wudda still be waiting all like now if ah man didn’t decide to go and get the car from Quito Quito and come back for us. Shuttles abandon the TJJ team! Large up Anthony AKA Geem for making the trek!!!!
BIG shout out to my man Fherry for escorting me all the way to the dance (because he knew I would get lost) even though he had to go straight back to work! And of course, large up to Dahved Levy and the Bathsheba Experience crew for having us, we will be back next year!
