7th July, 2011 saw The Return of Honey and Lime which showcased performances by Curious Ringo, Nebula 868, Andy Venture and Kindred who performed together after ten years.
Things kicked off with Curious Ringo. He delivered poetic oral rhymes with titles like ‘No More Justice, No More Peace’, ‘Get Me Out’ to name a few. He was then followed by the brothers out of Santa Rosa, Arima that I first got wind of on the social network facebook. They always seemed to find innovative ways of getting their music out ‘Nebula868’ have now stamped their names on the local landscape with an infectious style of hip hop flavored rhymes with local slang and pop beats.
After a brief intermission, Andy Venture graced the stage along with backing band ‘The Full Range Experience’. The energy in La Casa Ibiza was then taken to a different level. Venture dipped into his repertoire of songs from Raid, Thief In The Night, Real Money and one of his more popular songs to date Let U Know (Wine up Yuh Wasteline). With a T+T flag draped over his shoulder and bare feet, Venture left the stage with the audience in full appreciation of T+T’s oral traditions.
Kindred then took to the stage. First up was Omari Ashby who has made his mark as a producer and now runs his own studio Nexrise studios. He delivered a riveting solo performance. Quynton “Akinde” Gooding who explained that his search to take the music to the masses carried him to Los Angeles where it is being appreciated and an invitation to return and perform at an event such as Honey and Lime was not to be missed. He then treated the audience to his new material.
When the duo came together it didn’t seem as if a decade had passed, the way they just picked up from where they left off. They interacted with the audience taking them on a musical journey. Artiste such as Rembunction, Ataklan etc were seen appreciating the performance from a group that flipped their style of Rapso bringing a youthful flare to their hits from the early nineties with titles such as ‘Hotter Than Fire’, ‘Ha Da Day’ and one of my favorites ‘This Trini Can Flow’.
