Pan-Caribbean entertainment television network, TEMPO Networks decided to collaborate with CCB Entertainment for their 6th annual birthday celebration, TEMPO Turns 6! A soca concert that turned out for the best, despite a few glitches. But TJJ made sure to be there for what was to be the hottest soca concert in the tri-state area, on what seemed to be the hottest day of the entire summer...Sheeesh! . . .
It was 98 degrees without shade! Oh lawwdd! We knew Six Flags on a Saturday in the middle of summer meant swarms of people, so we headed out from Brooklyn real early and was pumpin straight threw on the way. We arrived at 2pm, great timing. Just in time to catch the pre-show and all that good stuff! Only problem was . . .we couldn't get into the park! Guest lists were a mess, because we weren't the only ones. It seemed that VIP, artist, and DJs were getting the run around due to lack of coordination, in THE BLAZING HOT SUN! . . .VIPs missed the VIP picnic...(for those who knew about it), Everyone seemed to miss the pre-show featuring 2Ntrigue. :( We wanted to see the girls intrigue us with their Kryptonite!
We finally made it in as we found the media list after what seemed to be an adventure all by itself. We dashed straight to the main stage because it was already about 5:30pm, showtime was set to begin in a matter of minutes. We passed by a booth outside the arena, selling corn soup, and roti and ting ting ting....Yummm! But we couldn't stop to grab a bite. Inside, the arena was barely filled, DJ Back 2 Basics was in the middle of his set, getting the crowd ready for a line-up that was bound to cause madness. Those who took the party buses to the park, were already liquored up. We hear the buses were loaded with some top shelf goodies! We snapped a few attendees limin before we headed backstage to get some artist close-ups.
Iwer was breezing out on the fronts, Tallpree was having a chat with Skinny Fabulous, and we hear Kes the Band took the time to ride some roller coasters! Cool vibes backstage. Lots of familiar faces to the TJJ fam were backstage, including Jeanille Bonterre, one of the Caribbean's favorite television hosts and personalities, and Janeisha John, Miss Virgin Islands 2010 and new television host.
The show finally kicked off with Young Devyn and her dancers d Girls, Lyrikal joined her later and coasted right into his set. Lyrikal was followed by Patch, Tallpree, Iwer, and Benjai. Young upcoming artist Aaron Fresh stepped out with his own rendition of Shabba's Ting a Ling a Ling! Woy! School bell ah Riiing! All the little girls screamed their little lungs out! Jeezums. . . It was then time for a big surprise. . . Frederick Morton, CEO of TEMPO, introduced Shaggy! Diamond selling, Grammy award winning reggae artist stepped out on the soca stage, and it was pure vibes from then. The show had officially started! Vibesman Redman and Ion "The Goose" Eligon proceeded to MC the show! Rikki Jai was up next with the chutney vibe. From there it was time for the head liners to take the stage! The band set up, dancers primed back stage! We knew it was about to go down.
Kes finally took the stage hittin the stage hard with Wotless! He cut it short and progressed into an extensive tracklist of our favorite Kes tunes including ""Right Dey"", ""Come Gyal"", ""Where Yuh From"", ""Thunder"", they even did some covers of some old school tunes like Explainer's ""Lorraine"" and dancehall king Vybz Kartel's ""Summertime"". Tooooo much vibe! It was hot! And the crowd was blown away! We were too especially to see how much Kes the Band has grown!
Kes took a mini break, but the band continued to perform alongside a soca queen, Nadia Batson! She represented for the ladies at TT6. Skinny Fabulous followed, and stomped down the stage, fresh from Vincy Carnival, "Like ah pack ah Duracelllllll!" . . .We Charge Upppp! Skinny did his thing and kept the show high energy and pumpin! Kes came back out to wrap up the show with Wotless one more time!
Much love to CCB for inviting TJJ each and every year! Hector Carter, yuh large! You kill dem with Machel each year, and now you come and kill dem with Kes! We look forward to more summers to come at Six Flags! We waitin for that reggae show in August! Happy Birthday to TEMPO - 6 years of success, and best of luck breaking into the US market. Kes the Band for representing!, the dancers - those somersaults were wicked! Rhythm section really beat iron and made sure there was never a dull moment. Show was besss!"
