MOHAN JAIKARAN is a Trinidad-born, New York-based entrepreneur who is recognized on both sides of the Atlantic as a pioneer in the development, export and promotion of Caribbean culture, entertainment and leisure activities. His highly successful New York Nightclub, MARACAS, is the entertainment hub of the Caribbean Diaspora in the United States and for all Americans keen for a taste of all things Caribbean. Over the years, Mohan Jaikaran’s deep involvement in the Caribbean and shrewd understanding of the region’s markets have given him a strategic position for discerning emerging trends and for identifying investment opportunities. He was, for example, among the first to spot the market potential for Caribbean rhythms and the cross-over appeal of the music, both within the Caribbean and beyond. Under his JMC Label, Mohan Jaikaran has introduced successive generations of North American and Caribbean audiences to emerging talents from the islands of the Caribbean, many of whom are today among the most powerful brands in the region and the wider Diaspora. He was also the director of the extremely successful International Soca Monarch franchise, the biggest competitive showcase for Soca music, the driving force behind the world-famous Trinidad and Tobago Carnival.
From managing, developing and promoting talent, Mohan Jaikaran has expanded into mass media with the launch of WIN RADIO 101.1FM (FORMALLY MASALA), a very successful national radio station in Trinidad and Tobago which is linked to his radio station in New York. From this base, he has now moved into television and is about to launch WINTV, the first international television station to be based in Central Trinidad. In addition to these major ventures, Mohan Jaikaran has also made several strategic forays in the manufacturing and retail sectors of the Caribbean, all of which have yielded significant returns on investment. Mohan Jaikaran’s recognition of the emerging industrial and business developmental potential of Trinidad and Tobago and specifically Chaguanas motivated him to contribute to this development and growth by expanding his business venture to include the hotel industry.
