"I feel like … I just win a million dollars"
Since I got wind that Kes the Band was coming into Miami, the song “Wotless” has been stuck in my head.
The event was held at Calder Casino & Race Track in the beautiful City of Miami Gardens. With this venue, there’s ample parking for everyone. The only drawback being that some people had to walk a little distance to get to the venue because the parking lot is so large. But heh, we rather walk a little than circulate around a parking lot looking for a spot when fete going on inside.
Some folks had their tickets in hand all three week before the event... some of my friends even took pictures of their tickets post on their Facebook Walls. It was madness!!!! And if anyone had a photo of themselves and Kees (from no matter how far back), it became instant Facebook profile pic. Speaking of which, I need to work on getting my photo with Mr. Dieffenthaller.
Trini Jungle Juice was in the building from early, which is so unlike us, but I didn't want to miss out on anything. Getting in was another story ... "Who say bacchanal?" But thanks to the promoters before you know it, I was on the inside with camera in hand ready for duty. "Me Ready"...
Now, the event was held at the Rooftop at Calder an outdoor venue, which is also home for the monthly Naked and Soca 360 events. Selena Serrano was the opening act and she got the mood going with an awesome performance. Well yes, she was rocking those shorts. A man behind meh was only commenting on Selena's legs and beauty. Girl, go on and do your ting, I see big things ah go on. Respect!
Where in the world is Barrie Hype? Barrie was at Calder front and center on the stage stamping on it. Ah tell yuh, this was the place to be, if you weren’t there, yuh miss out!
Stueps... Rain start to fall right before Kes the Band was to perform. The music had to stop, but that didn't stop the crowd from singing acapella in the rain. It was a grand sight even for Kes who was looking into the crowd as they sang “Wotless”, “Right Dey”, “Where Yuh From” and more. Kes the band performance was excellent! And I especially like when Kees takes off his shirt .... lawd.. I know allyuh ladies know what I’m talkin’ bout. That is when I does start getting on “Wotless” and winning down low low. Much love to Kes... great event, probably one of the best since Trinidad Carnival 2011.
Now peoples, if you buying food, get it from the permitted vendors working for the promoters and establishment. These vendors are licensed, so eat at your own risk if you decide to buy corn soup from somebody who set up kitchen in they car. Right nice.
Big up to Islands United and Party People for bringing such a spectacular event to South Florida. See you guys for the next event - "STAGES" Memorial Weekend - Saturday May 28th, 2011.
Still getting on Wotless,
