The Roaring 20's was a period in history that will always be remembered for the breaking of tradition with respect to fashion culture and the status quo. Tru Dynasty captured this concept in their 2011 offering of THE ROARING 20s.
CROWD:
The crowd whilst on the moderate side thoroughly appreciated the production. As far as band launches go it was reasonably well attended.
VENUE/ACCESSIBILITY:
Located at the York University campus it took a bit of navigating to pinpoint the exact location. Once identified it adequately accomodated the launch and provided those in attendance with opportunity to view the models in an intimate setting.
VIBES:
The 10pm scheduled start did not occur. Festivities commenced {not so promptly} at 11:15pm with a well choreographed intro in true 20s fashion that delighted the crowd. Intrigued by the intro I waited with anticipation for the rest of the cast to show off their wares. First off was the section ALL THAT JAZZ with an extremly beautiful voloptuous and confident model who by the reaction of the crowd, personified why they called it the ""ROARING"" 20s. Clad in a pink feathered two piece that did its best to contain the model this section was well presented and should be a favourite with masqueraders.
Next up were the MATCH GIRLS who would cause any man to take up smoking. SPEAK EASY was next to hit the runway and with a firey red costume depicting the devilish forbidden period that was prohibition. Other sections were FLAPPERS GANGSTERZ SHOWGIRLS COCO CHANNEL BUBBLE BUBBLE and my favorite......JOSEPHENE BAKER which is sure to cause more than the mercury to rise for CARIBANA.
TRU DYNASTY selected a period that offered so many possibilities for creativity and fun. My only concern is that not much thought was given to the Male costumes that were simplistic at best. This was indeed unfortunate since during this period in history fashion was an artform and men dressed to kill (literally). That being said Tru Dynasty continues to roll out great fun themes and their 2011 season and we wish then continued success.
FOOD/DRINKS:
Cash bar was reasonably well stocked
