Wednesday, October 1; Kingston Jamaica: The fifth season of Jamaica's premier talent show, Digicel Rising Stars, is about to be brought to a stupendous close when the winner of the 2008 competition and the nine runner-ups will perform in what is termed the most keenly anticipated Digicel Rising Stars Concert Show come Friday October 3 at Mas Camp on Oxford Road, Kingston.
The show on Friday night will be a vehicle for the contestants to perform along with some of Jamaica's premier musical artistes, much to the anticipation of fans and the contestants.
"I must confess I'm feeling a bit nervous, but I'm thinking I'm more excited than nervous about Friday," opined Cameal Davis who has been ordained 'the Denham Town Princess'.
The group Khalil chided that they were in anticipation of something great: "Honestly, at this point, we are not worried about who will win, we have reached a point where no one is worried about dropping out because we are all winners; but nonetheless we will do Jamaica proud."
Wayne continued: "I believe that I speak for everyone, including Cameal, SLR, K'Alee, Lashuana and others who have entered this year and before, that Digicel Rising Stars has indeed helped us hone our skills…thanks Digicel and big-up; so Friday night it's all about Jamaica, the fans, the Top 10 and Digicel together."
The English writer and Clergyman Sydney Smith said, "The thing about performance, even if it's only an illusion, is that it is a celebration of the fact that we do contain within ourselves infinite possibilities." This year, the Digicel Rising Stars are perfervid in their anticipation of the final show as they look to perform on stage with one of Jamaica's best, Marcia Griffiths.
Griffiths commented: "It is really great to be seeing young people doing their best and getting all the assistance in getting their foot into the music industry; to be honest, it can be hard to get into the business, even if you are talented and I think we should applaud Digicel."
Others to share stage with the Top 10 contestants include the self-proclaim Energy God, Elephant Man; the man who has been 'stepping out' and 'loaded' with an entourage of supporters with his latest hits, Busy Signal; the Bad Gyal CeCile; Goddy Goddy, the man of God's word who blew away viewers on the show's debut gospel themed-night; the 2005 winner known for Love is all we Need, Chris Martin; the face of Pepsi-Cola Jamaica's special edition label and 2007 Digicel Rising Star, Romain Virgo; and former top-ten Jim Laden are all poised for an appearance come Friday, October 3.
"I think this could have only been the best fifth anniversary present that Digicel Rising Stars could have possible asked for, with what I think has been one of the best set of contestants to knock out the season with. The curtains are being closed on yet another season and I can only say, apart from the contestants that were great, that we have set a high standard for ourselves yet again; it is now the hope that we will soar next year for bigger and better things." stated Digicel Rising Stars' Producer Sharon Schroeter.
Tickets for the big show are J$500 and all proceeds from the final Digicel Rising Stars Concert show will be donated to the Best Care Children's Home which is in desperate need of assistance. The donation is a continuation of the Digicel Rising Stars commitment to give back to communities who have made the show such a tremendous success.
While many continue to bet as to who will take the top spot of Digicel Rising Stars 2008, many will be heading out to Mas Camp, Oxford Road to make certain that they catch the results on the big screen as they anticipate the performance from Marcia Griffiths, Elephant Man, Busy Signal, CeCile, LUST, Goddy Goddy, Chris Martin, Romain Virgo, Jim Laden and the Top 10, to put a stupendous close on a grandiose season.
