POS, Trinidad (Sonique Solutions) – The 2011 edition of the Tobago Carnival Regatta is in full swing as locals and foreigners converge on Pigeon Point Beach to witness fantastic displays of extreme athleticism.

The region’s most youthful Regatta kicks off this weekend and will feature 3 days of supreme action and excitement in particular with the highly anticipated Windsurfing and Kite Boarding segments.

Windsurfing is a fun sport for all ages that allows you to embrace Mother Nature’s elements, harness their powers and generate lasting memories. Kite Boarding on the other hand is an extreme sport that really gives one the “keys to the Ferrari” so to speak. It’s a sports that you can relax and just “free-ride” but the allure is to fly high and do maneuvers only tamed by one’s imagination.

For years these two water based sports have been leaving spectators around the world in awe and amazement and according to Brett Kenny (who is in charge of the Windsurfing aspect of the Regatta) these activities may be catalysts to bringing added interest to the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Kenny who also operates Radical Sports Limited offered this statement, “Since I’ve been involved in the Regatta I have diversified Radical Sports Limited’s effort to pushing kiting as well as wind surfing and putting Tobago on the map for not only relaxing vacations, but also ‘Radical Adventures’.

We are missing the young tourists and Kite Boarding and Wind Surfing are forums to bring them here”.

Kenny who has represented and promoted T&T in the Bahamas plans on using the Regatta as a platform to get Tobago and also Trinidad in the lime light among the global fans of these sports. He acknowledges the efforts of Keith Wyke, Orian Jakerov, Errol Shim and a host of other home-based “Waterholics” who have for years been creating local recognition for these sports and highlighting the fact that they can be practiced in sweet, beautiful T&T.

Kenny added, “I do think that through events such as the Tobago Carnival Regatta, we can raise awareness of these sports and hopefully form a circuit so that we can compete among the islands and keep the sport alive for decades to come”.
