After loyally waiting 6 months for the next Beach House event in Trinidad, Beach House Entertainment was ready to reveal its final instalment for 2010 with “Beach House – Sound Pressure!”
Saturday November 13th started with continuous rain in all parts of the island, especially down in the west. Was this going to be déjà vu with another rained out end of year Beach House event at the very same location poolside Chaguaramas? Luckily by 9pm the rains had subsided, the clouds had moved away and the stars finally filled the sky! So it was time for yuh boy and the rest TJJ family to see how Beach House intended to live up to its excellent brand!
Beach House Entertainment is well known for transforming the most unusual locations into an out of this world outdoor partying oasis. The Chaguaramas Community Pool is not a new venue for Beach House but the question was “How is Beach House going to make this one different?”
Well the venue was the same, but the layout was excitingly different. Beach House did some home work based on feedback for the 2009 event as they changed the entrance from along side the pool to now panoramically above the pool, all grass areas were now covered with white flooring, and the once dull grey pool was emptied and washed in a dazzling white!
The emptied pool with kiosks serving complementary drink shots was once again the main attraction at BH Sound Pressure … but then it became the focus a great contention as the paint that was used to refurbish the pool had not totally dried due to the previous incessant inclement weather! How can you appease an uptown Trinidadian crowd for getting white paint on their Jimmy Choos and Prada Loafers? Well you can announce a free round of drinks at the bar. With no sign of any abatement in customer dissatisfaction in sight from BH, the crowd became more agitated.
Then by midnight the already tense crowd had to endure even more frustration as UK based DJ Panjabi was now on the ones and twos. This DJ who was totally ignorant of the Trinidadian cultural paradigm as they continuously gave a barrage of instructions to pump your fist in the air and he unleashed techno hits from the 90s to this 30-something crowd. The party quickly became sapped of any vibe it once had and the crowd quickly made their way out of the pool and to the bar to get as much alcohol as possible to numb the pain!
With senses impeded by alcohol the once agitated crowd made their way back into the pool as DJ Ishmael the Demolition Man reconstructed the party with some sweet soca vibes! And then the party really shot off with one song as everyone with their white shoes decided to follow Lil Rick and Go Down!!!
In the end it was great that Beach House Entertainment to invite TJJ to their Sound Pressure event. BH had made a second shot with the Chaguaramas pool venue and had missed this time. They should simply take it as a learning experience and now attempt to paint venues at least two days before an event when in the rainy season and they must always ensure to educate all performing acts of what is expected from them for a BH crowd. But even with a great layout and good crowd Beach House Sound Pressure was real PRESSAH!

As much as I agree with most everything that was said in this article, especially the part about the UK DJ, personally if I thought I could have gotten away with it I would have shot the man with some dry shit!
I would have to say, however, I'm not one that shares the sorrows for those who's poor Jimmy Choos and Prada Loafers were hurt on the night of almost boredom. You see the way I see it is every person that was in that party lives here and would have known it had rained all day and most of that faithful evening and am absolutely positive that almost every person that was there was at BH Sound Pressure 2k9 and knew what the venue looked like. So why anybody in their right mind would consciously put on a pair of shoes that is worth more then they could clearly afford to loose is beyond me! I feel no sympathy for anyone whose shoes got ruined.... |
