Dancehall's Reigning Champion Boards The Soul Train
2010 Soul Train Awards Nominates Vybz Kartel For Best Reggae Artist
New York, NY - October 19, 2010 - (RAINE PR): Dancehall luminary Vybz Kartel has been nominated for Best Reggae Artist for the 2010 Soul Train Awards. Scheduled for the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia on November 10th, the ceremony will air on Sunday, November 28th at 9PM on both BET and CENTRIC.
Kartel joins Alicia Keys, Usher, Drake, B.O.B., Nicki Minaj, Sade, Fantasia, and a host of other international superstars as a 2010 Soul Train Award nominee. Hosted by Oscar-nominated actors Terrance Howard and Taraji P. Henson, the Soul Train Awards will feature a host of live performances including sets from R. Kelly, Keyshia Cole, Rick Ross, and Ne-Yo.
The Soul Train nomination comes on the heels of Kartel's nomination for Best Reggae Artist by the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards to be held in Liverpool, England on October 20th.
Named Deejay of the Year, Recording Artist of the Year, and Songwriter/Lyricist of the Year by the 2010 Excellence in Music and Entertainment Awards in Jamaica, Kartel has been riding high on the success of his album Pon Di Gaza 2.0 and a string of #1singles, including the international crossover hit "Clarks." Featured on So You Think You Can Dance Canada, and BET's 106 and Park, "Clarks" has spent over 28 weeks among the top 3 Reggae singles gaining major airplay throughout North America. Last month, Kartel completed a successful mini-European tour, headlining the Amesterdam Reggae Festival, and performing to sold-out crowds in France and Switzerland.
"Well, Kartel is the Dancehall artist with the most soul, so it's only natural that I be nominated for a Soul Train Award," jokes Adidja 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer. "Big thanks to organizers of Soul Train, and to throngs of music fans worldwide for the recognition, and the nomination."
