In a recent discussion a fellow Trini made the assertion that Trinidad is the “elementary school” of having a good time when compared to partying abroad and I begged to differ! As a true party animal I know that we can boast of having one of the liveliest social scenes and promoters such as Red Ants continue to raise the bar on that experience. Their annual October fete has built a reputation for being one of the best during the typically quiet season that falls between the “Summer” and Christmas party seasons. Although this trend has certainly changed since there’s now a cooler fete, j’ouvert fete, cruise or cooler-j’ouvert-cruise every week, the party still managed to pull a huge crowd. The feters came in anticipation of the good time that Red Ants and free drinks normally provide.
The stand up and sip period that normally precedes the inevitable free drinks mayhem was a lot longer than usual on Saturday. We don’t know if folks were taking the opportunity to catch up with old friends or dare we suggest it, we getting old? Nah… we’ll go with the former but things did pick up eventually and the impressive DJ lineup definitely helped. By the time DJ Private Ryan took the stage, the drinks had set in and his awesome mixing skills kept the party pumping till nearly sunrise.
As usual the organization of the party was impeccable. The bar ran smoothly and as far as we can tell never ran out the advertised premium drinks. There were sponsored alcohol and cigarette displays set up like lounges which added to the ambiance while the Red Light District theme added a risqué element to the party. There were silhouetted “Go Go dancers” on display who must be commended for their energy and skill coming up with all those different moves. They provided eye candy for the guys and inspiration for the girls lol.
Speaking of eye candy, there was no shortage at the fete for either sex and well of course beer goggles courtesy of the free drinks helped too. The outfits were the typical range of casual chic that Trini’s throw together effortlessly with the exception of two young ladies (presumably foreigners) who did not get the memo that this year was NOT a costume party! While others may have left immediately these two didn’t let that stop them from having a good time and we give them props for that.
Trini’s love a great free drinks fete and Red Ants & the Pure committee did not disappoint in delivering just that. We could’ve done with a little more vibes at the start of the night but say what … every party can’t be a sweaty bruk out session, and we still enjoyed ourselves, which is what counts.
