Labor day weekend is finally upon us. So the TJJ crew got all dolled up and stepped out to 3 the Hard Way at Tropical Paradise Ballroom. At first I was a little disappointed to be attending an indoor fete on what most Brooklynites consider the last weekend of the summer, but when I stepped outside and had to go back for my jacket, suddenly I felt relieved.
We arrived early just as the party was warming up. It made it easy to get some drinks, there was also bake & shark, pelau and souse on hand for those who got hungry. One second I was looking down at my drink and the next second I looked up and the party was packed! It was a nice dressed crowd that was letting nothing get in the way of enjoying themselves for Labor Day Weekend.
On my mind still is this one couple, that I watched the walk through the door chipping, and go straight to the bar where they stood wining. Once they had their drinks, they found a spot on the dance floor and danced together all night- they were on a mission! And so it was with most of the patrons at 3 the Hard Way- get a drink, find a spot on the dance floor and have a good time.
"This is not a fete in here, this is madness!”...DJ Anonymous started off the evening with a nice little journey back into soca history, inspiring many people to sing a long. Then Spice brought it back to the present day, incorporating a little merengue segment that sent some couples cha cha cha-ing and spinning across the ballroom. But the moment I knew these people were ready to party was when Funky Fat Boy got on the wheels and played parang. “I went paranging by meh neighbor...” and the crowd went wild! Parang in September? I have seen it all folks! He also did a nice old school hip-hop segment that got me out into the middle of the dancefloor- good times!
The TJJ crew would like to thank A Crowd, Party People Promotions and Fun Guyz for having us. We had a wonderful time and it was a great way to keep the Labor Day vibes flowing!
