Tonight saw TJJ at yet another presentation for the C2K11 Band launch season. This time instead of the usual Port-of-Spain, Dream Team showcased their Carnival 2011 production in St. Augustine at UWI’s Social Club. Great for their East-West corridor followers … not so great for the POS crew … lol. But it was easy to find and had plenty parking available; why complain … TJJ was cool J
We spent about half an hour walking around taking in the venue and overall vibes, but were fully unaware that there was a VIP/Media area dedicated all toward us. Well after conducting a whole conversation with the bartender about what chaser goes good with what, and also purchasing our first rounds, we were then approached by a Dream Team rep, which came and escorted us to this paradise. Who could ever complain about FREE Drinks!
Around midnight the crowd still seemed fairly small and the vibes a bit mellow. Somehow however, the moment the announcement was made that the presentation was about to begin changed everything … BOOM! If you saw people! We were wandering … where did all these people come out from??!!
The stage area became packed out, serious winery going on in front the DJ booth and about 30 models were now lined up and waiting to take the stage. Talk about a transition! Dream Team based their 2011 theme on different dances practised in Trinidad and Tobago, so we had sections from ‘Latin Dance’ to ‘Chinese Fan Dancers’ to ‘Chutney Bacchanal’.
We have to admit … some of the costumes was Real BESS, as were the models. The organisers saw their Art of Dance presentation as an attempt to ‘celebrate a common passion that transcends racial and social barriers’. We like the idea … we like the costumes.
Dream Team incorporated dance skits in between some of the costume presentations in keeping with the overall theme giving it an exciting and more enjoyable twist. The first dance however, left us a bit perplexed as to what it was exactly, and we had a feeling that the dancers were capable of much more than what we saw.
A Latin dance group was up next. TJJ was macoing while they warmed up before and it was looking real good. The actual performance though ... as Slap Chop says ‘man does cry, tears does fall’. There were a few glitches with the presentation generally but the important thing was the costumes, and TJJ have to say … well done Dream Team.
Overall, Dream Team did well with their 2011 Band Launch and costume presentation. The idea was creative, the costumes were nice and the party was good. Next year if the DJ charges up his laptop battery properly, the presentation starts a bit earlier and they maintain a free bar facility for media, then TJJ will be back next year for sure.
