If you are a true carnival baby you’ll know that nothing can compare to the rush of the whole Mas experience from start to finish. The experience of course starts with band launching season when revellers get to preview what they will be palancing in next year.  On July 24th 2010, TRIBE mas launched their 2011 presentation "The Way of the Warrior" at the Queen’s Park Savannah, which was transformed into a “battlefield”. We were so anxious and excited to see what was in store as the theme promised to give us some sexy options. Not only that, but we were also dying to see the new band BLISS and to compare the costumes that this new “Intimate Experience” would come with.

We weren’t disappointed. The lights, the theatrics, the fireworks and ooooooohhhhh the costumes!  With sections representing different warriors as depicted through history TRIBE definitely brought the heat!!!!!! From Persians, to Masai and Mongols there were sections representing a wide selection of geographic locations. The designers must be commended this year for bringing originality with their colour combinations and use of non traditional materials cause if you’ve been playing Mas for a while you know you get fed up of seeing the same costumes year after year. BLISS costumes were just as hot if not hotter depending on your tastes but the band is definitely not going to be a stepchild to the main band TRIBE.

 

After the presentation it was time to wine. As with all TRIBE events the organization was flawless. There were well-stocked bars at several locations to make sure that the free drinks never stopped flowing and there was more than enough space in the venue for everyone to enjoy themselves. There was also a live performance by Ravi B whose hit “Ah Drinka” never fails to get a crowd moving, especially at a free drinks party.

All in all we had a good time on Saturday night. The costumes definitely got us hyped for Carnival 2011. Now just to decide which of the hot ones we will be in!
