In spite of a week of wretched weather Island People’s Caution fete was blessed by perfect conditions that brought all of the good times enthusiasts out in their numbers. Last Saturday night was the time and Bowen Marine, Chaguaramas was the place to revel in Island People’s latest instalment of their perennially favoured and Bmobile sponsored Caution fete.

Caution, the first event on Bmobile’s Hot Ticket Summer 2010 is always a marquee event in the summer party calendar and always does its job of satiating the appetite of the party animals. This year Caution promised to do something different and they certainly delivered.

Island People’s Caution fetes have always had a construction motif with its signature colours of black and yellow but this year’s theme of celebrating life shone through. Somehow the IP crew were able to marry the two seemingly disparate topics perfectly.

The selection of Bowen Marine was most appropriate for the party’s construction theme. The former hangar and boat servicing site offered all the space necessary for the event and the mostly destroyed structure lent particular credence to the event’s design by way of visible steel and brick and the absence of a fourth wall and ceiling.

Apart from the trademark Island People yellow and black caution tape the venue was canvassed by posters depicting the party’s official slogan and similar taglines. The party’s lighting scheme was adequate and was accentuated by revolving disco lights, fog effects and intermittent confetti explosions.

White tents at the entrance to the venue created a tunnel that was distinguished by massive projection screens on either side that showed images of celebrations from around the world such as Carnival festivities, the World Cup, the Pamplona running of the bulls and the Tomatino tomato festival. The light cast by the screen throughout the tunnel was surreal and reminiscent of hippies, substance induced hallucinations and other Woodstock images.

The layout of the venue illustrated IP’s use of effective simplicity which allowed patrons to walk around and mingle in an unobstructed manner. The set up at Bowen Marine featured a DJ booth located on an elevated platform placed squarely in the centre of the venue and large display screens while two large bars, a food station, power generators, wind blowers and various promotional boothes lined the perimeter.

The party attracted a beautiful collection of attendees. However, ladies dominated in number and definitely came out to impress clad in the latest styles of heels, shorts, pencil jeans, and armed with the intention to let loose to the sounds of summer. The music for the night comprised of a mix of hip hop, dancehall, house music and of course recent Carnival and Crop Over pleasers.

Caution offered a line-up of T&T’s top DJs, most notably Sunny Bling of the Boom Champions 94.1FM. Sunny, an official Bmobile brand advocate confidently fulfilled his duties as a mic man and along with his DJ catered to all musical tastes but especially focused on making the party special for the ladies who particularly appreciated his session of old school Machel Montano songs.

Drinks competed with hips to see which could flow more freely and Sunny’s mic was the baton conducting the bacchanal. He kept the capacity crowd enthused while tastefully interweaving descriptions of Bmobile offers and promotions such as their expanded “My Lime package” and their “Hot Summer Ticket” promotion whereby winners could receive tickets to the most anticipated events of the summer.

Caution 2010 was well a executed and seemingly enjoyable event for all in attendance including West Indies cricketer Mervyn Dillon, Tweez of 96.1 WEFM, and Red 96.7FM personality, Jase. The food selections of Arabian cuisine, corn soup and doubles were a welcomed attraction and bar staff of both B.A.R.S and Nubian received high praises by patrons who were very impressed by the speedy service at this free drinks affair.

Marlon Grant of IP explained that the theme of Celebrate Life was chosen in light of all the environmental and cultural upheavals the world has seen this year. He shared, “Images of earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and other natural disasters have been beamed across the globe so many times that we all feel that we have personally experienced such trauma as well. But at the same time we are thrilled by the spectacle of the World Cup happening now and other exhilarating events”.

Grant further stated, “Via Caution fete Island People seeks to advise Trinbagonians that every moment of life is precious and that we should celebrate life; good, bad or in between; and take maximum enjoyment in it. Make your life something you can be proud of. Cherish it, revel in it, make the most of it but proceed with caution”.

Bmobile’s willingness to partner in such a positive proclamation is perfectly understandable given their commitment to the enrichment of the lives of Trinbagonians not only via communications but also through their contributions to art, culture and youth activities.
