"Oh, oh, oh it's magic! You knooooow!!" What a night of magic. On Thursday 20th May; at the Aura Restaurant, patrons minds were memorized and their believe in magic was put to the test at Ala-Kazam with Kess The Illusionist.
Kess (Keston Rodriguez) is now known as the youngest magician in the Caribbean, and from my point of view......he isn't quite bad. His spunk, wit, and energy captivated the crowd besides his wondrous magic tricks. Even though at some points his energy may have gotten the best of him and he may have gotten a bit ahead of himself where content is concerned, his humor was still appreciated.
His show was opened by the alternative rock band Single Recruit. They entertained the crowd with some music before the magic was to begin. Wait a minute.....a limo? He pulled up in a stretched limo? I just said he's not too bad, and here it is he enters the venue like Chris Angel. Well don't that beat all. He maybe the youngest, but he can sure as hell make an entrance. David Blaine eat your heart out. Accompanied by his gorgeous assistant, Kess entered the venue; with the glares and flashes of cameras giving him that "red carpet" entry.
His first half of the show was a bit sketchy, and seemed a bit disorganized; not knowing that from the time the show started, an illusion and trick was already in play.Once again, brings me back to his humor. He invited a number of people to help and participate in some of his tricks, which was both funny as well as interesting to see some patrons reaction to some of the illusions. There was then a short intermission where the crowd was entertained by Synergy Soca Star Season 5 winner; Metro.
All in all it was an entertaining show.
Special thanks to Keston Rodriguez and Nicholas Alley-Khat Baggy for having us at their event. We at TJJ look forward to hear more projects coming from these two young men. Once again Keston, you are a talented individual, with some fine tuning and practice, you will surely do Trinidad proud with what you do.
