Very special shout out to Dre, Curtis and Shorne of ShorBlu Events for a wonderful time at Sutra, and bringing us together each and every Thursday at Club Roam for an upscaled Caribbean vibe. Looking forward to the fifth year!
CROWD:
Sutra brought out all kinds of sexy to the city on Sunday evening, for ShorBlu's fourth annual event. ShorBlu events always bring out the upscale, sophisticated Caribbean partygoers. The crowd was unquestionably filled with eye candy. The majority came dressed to kill and definitely to impress. The dress code was surely Manhattan chic and trendy. The crowd aimed high and brought an extra ounce of swagger, some forget theirs at home. They aimed for it, but missed. Better luck next time. No scene. They faded into the background, because Sutra was ram packed with sexiness throughout the ENTIRE night.
VENUE/ACCESSIBILITY:
The city was not as packed as we thought it would be, considering that it was still midday. Parking was fairly easy to find. We arrived at Room Service, where muscular men greeted us in Ancient Egyptian clad. Room Service was the perfect venue for Sutra. A venue that exudes the same amount of seductiveness, sophistication, and ambience that the event called for. The decor was perfect for the Ancient Egyptian theme, embellished in gold figures throughout the spacious, unblemished venue, and elegantly draped lounge areas, resembling the interior of Ancient Egyptian palace.
VIBES:
There was a wide variety of music, not just the typical soca and reggae tunes that DJs spin at every. Although some line ups were beyond predictable, there was a nice change that others brought to the scene, thanks to Back 2 Basics, S.L.I, Sounds 4 Life and hailing from Club Coconuts Trinidad, King Saul. Partygoers surely appreciated the throwback hip hop tunes, throwin' their hands up and mouthing line for line of every Biggie song that played. As it got later, the crowd lost all behavior... and shoes, as they palanced (still, after months and months, it has not come to an end!), and balanced. There was a minor malfunction and the music shutdown for a bit but it didn't quite kill the scene. ShorBlu took it up a notch and brought did something out of the ordinary, with some exotic performances by the topless dancers, and the belly dancer routines. You don't see women balancing massive swords, out of a scene from Spartacus, on their heads at your average party...
FOOD/DRINKS:
An event sponsored by Guinness, meant what seemed like endless cases of Guinness, being walked over to the bar. The two bars, one upon entry and one way in the back, were well stocked with top shelf liquor, and flowed smoothly and quickly.
SERVICE:
The promoters engaged with their partygoers throughout the entire night like it was family. The same faces who have been with them from the beginning in Aura straight to Roam every Thursday night for their afterwork lime at Vice. Security was no joke though. If you didn't have your i.d, you was not gettin in, even if you was CLEARLY over the age of 21, as in you pass 21, 20 years ago ... you was not gettin into Sutra.
COST/VALUE:
$25 tickets in advance was well worth it. If you came early you got complimentary appetizers and Guinness giveaways.
