Wooooiiii!!!!! Like the talkz that went around for the night, ah hadda say RETURN FETE was SOBOLIOUS! Nuff respect to Dr. Jay and the KOS Family... TJJ was lookin' for Dr. Palan Singh for some Palancil, but the real doctor fix we up nice! No more POST CARNIVAL DEPRESSION :) Thanks doc!
CROWD:
Since this was the first “big” fete since everyone came back from trini, the level of anticipation was outta this world! You woulda swear we were back in Trinidad with the amount of cars in the parkinglot bussin ah early pre-drinking session... lol – apparently noone gave up alcohol for lent this rounds! Jus watchin the crowd in the parking lot made me realise how many true Soca lovers we have in Toronto! The lineup at the front of the venue went all the way to the street corner but that was no scene cus fete-go’ers were jammin’ in de line... You could see all the rags and flags hanging from back pockets and around wrists, jus waiting to be raised high in the sky! As always, the ladies came out lookin’ like some bess tings and the fellas were dressed to handle all dem sexy waistlines!
VENUE/ACCESSIBILITY:
If you haven’t been to Kool Haus, let me just start by telling you this is one of my favourite venues! Parking is NEVER an issue because there are more than 5 different lots in the area. The location is very accessible, close to the major highways and not in a busy area. I think this venue could accommodate roughly about 2000 fete-go’ers but I may be way off! Lol – it look like 2000 alone was in de line at 10pm! The venue is the perfect size so it had enough room for NO BEHAVIOUR!
VIBES:
PALAAAAANCE! That was de talk of de night! The excitement was incredible inside Kool Haus... there were so many times throughout the night that I had to ketch myself cus I felt like I was in a Trinidad Carnival fete! It’s only when yuh walk outside and the breeze ketch yuh is when yuh realise where yuh really was lol! Everybody was tiefin’ ah little tonight! The dj’s made all de ladies start whining from they when they entered the building. Yuh cud see all dem fellas huntin’ through the crowd! All the artists advertised were in the building so yuh know the patrons cudn’t be happier! It was amazing to see all the fete-go’ers in unisence... smilin’ and partying together! There was no better sight to see! Dayum ah love meh culture!!
KES THE BAND were the first artists on stage and you could feel the energy they were comin' with...they were ready to turn Kool Haus upside down! With a high energy performance and big chunes one after the other, it surely felt like "Heaven"! First timer to Toronto, SWAPPI ("Nah Go Play"), took control of the crowd after Kes put them in a frenzy and had all de gyals bawling they “nah go play no games!” His outfit was surely on point and we were definitely luvin’ de blinged out sunglasses! Yes Swappi, we see yuh! BLAXX ("Hunting", "Zombie") was up next and of course he kept the flow going. He had the crowd getting on “Dutty” and “Tusty” for more! The police was in de session lookin’ to arrest SHAL MARSHALL ("Police"), but the ladies were callin' out for him on de farm! Lol! Now, once he was done building up more vibes, the main act of the night was preparing to bless the stage. Fete-go’ers were counting down the list so they knew who was LEFT! Yesssss! JUMP UP! JUMP UP! They were more than reeeeaaaadyy!! 1, 2, 3, 4 .. "PALANCE"! JW & BLAZE jumped outta nowhere and had the energy of 10000 cheetahs! Jumpin' up to the ceiling and palancing across the stage, the International Power Soca Monarch and Road March Champions took full control of the crowd! Every man jack was palancing, left to right... yuh wuda swear everything was choreographed! The icing on de cake though was when the special guest came on stage to PALANCE! Cookie Monster himself touched the stage with hands in de air and legs everywhere! JW, Blaze and Cookie Monster showed the Toronto soca lovers exactly what it was to PALANCE! (P.s. If yuh ain't check out de music video yet.... do it NOW) The crowd went nuts and yuh wuda swear the ground was moving! Big ups to the dj's that brought pure sweetness, Dr. Jay, MarXman, 2Touch and Jester... and of course we can't forget the men who always talkin' di tings, E Man and Dirty Dez!
FOOD/DRINK:
"Barman gimme ah guiness and puncheon" is all ah was hearing by the bar...but since we're in Toronto, we couldn't get either! HOWEVER, fete-goers weren't disappointed cause they made do with level scotch, vodka, rye, rum and whisky... anything that could enhance the hype they were feeling, they were drinking! lol
SERVICE:
If you weren’t in Trinidad for Carnival 2010, Jay brought the hype back to Toronto for all our Soca lovers! The performances by the artists were just as amazing as they were live in sweet, sweet TnT and all artists advertised were present! Thumbs up Dr Jay! ;-)
COST/VALUE:
Wheeeey! Lemmie jus start by saying, if yuh didn't pre-purchase tickets and yuh get stick buyin' from scalpers, "breds ah feelin' sorry for yuh!" I was told scalpers were sellin tickets from $70-$120 when tickets were $35 and less! This is why ah always say "GET YUH TICKETS IN ADVANCE!" I must say even $35 was money well spent... fete-go'ers were more than satisfied at the end of the night! Imagine, people spent $120 for a ticket... what does that tell you? RETURN FETE SELLOFFFF!!!!
