St. Augustine Student Guild Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery If you feel you have to wait til Carnival Monday and Tuesday for "Bacchanal", think again! The ting done start in U.W.I Campus Carnival. Campus Carnival is the ultimate event where all races, creeds, professors and students come together to get on bad (for a minute you would never think these are the professionals of society). The semester started two weeks ago, the launch happened a week ago (Feb 5th) and finally fourteen bands made up this year's Campus Carnival. -just a quick insight of the launch- Fourteen bands each displayed their sections reflecting a particular theme this year, not to mention the (3) three newest bands Candy Land (Jub Jub, Whip Cream, Cotton Candy, Berries, Monkey Juice), Treasures of Arabia and Bubble/Chocolate Mania, as the hott, sexy U.W.I ladies showcased the costumes, and the ever famous "Rum and Roti" contest. People it was Carnival University style! Well it was not the average Friday on campus ... it's Black Friday! The trucks were lined up by Canada Hall straight to the guard booth, with music being tested and bars being stocked to capacity. As usual, last minute preparations. By 20 past 6, the first truck cranked up with "Push Bumper" and the bacchanal started. Masqueraders were lined up around their drink's truck to fill up, and in a pattern from music truck, masqueraders, drink's truck and a next band behind, this was the line up for the jam session. TJJ on the scene as always but this rounds Candy Land, Monkey Juice, and Chocolate/Bubble Mania have an extra mile of exclusivity.
Monkey Juice headed the parade followed by Chocolate/Bubble Mania and Candy Land with their sweet "Jub Jub" and "Whip Cream" girls not forgetting the TJJ banner on one of the drinks trucks. It was back and forth for the TJJ crew capturing all the bacchanal and anything in between. Chipping through the crowd, drinks in one hand, cameras in the next ... we looking to snap, videotape, interview and take a wine (or two)! On the way, we bounced up all sorts of characters.. up from the fellas who blowing the fire to the tiger (really a fella under wraps by a smallie) on a chain, to the rhythm section pumping the vibes, and lastly the masquerades winin' low. Peeps I telling you the ting nice for so, even outsiders want to join the bands, but the security was able to control that. Tizzy (El-A-Kru) and Richard Trumpet made an appearance on a truck performing their 2009 hit "Wuk Me (Remix)", as the bands made their way to the judging point in front of the old Admin building with each band illustrating a skit. "Laccaray" allyuh looking good! Is tune after tune from Soca to Dancehall (yes, Dancehall - we've always loved U.W.I Carnival for this) pelting from music trucks from a big DJ cast -- Readymix, Cyberia, Rapid Response, Trevlyn and Die Hard, Players International, Raw Fusion, Titan, Assassin, Tekk, Base, Archie and Shark all controlling their trucks. Next stop is straight to the Heart Ease car park where water trucks pumping water on the masqueraders. Some drunkens sleeping on the grass while others were still winin' low, and the rest still drinking (to get to that drunken stage). By 11pm, it was time for the After Party. The trucks pulled up one by one as masqueraders headed straight for the Quadrangle. We decided to follow as the whole of SAC rammed with people and mud. So if you're looking to be part of the Campus Carnival experience for 2010, register early and doh forget, TJJ will definitely be there! Heading straight to the ranch for Misty Ridge All Inclusive ... D' Young Juice ==================================== |
