Date: Saturday 4th July 2009 Location: Private Backyard. Brooklyn, NY Promotions: Fari and Brownsugar Promotions Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery Hey guys! It's July 4th again and TJJ was headed to Under The Trees. Well, I got there around 6pm ... a bit late but that's just the Trini in meh ... lol! First off, I was greeted upon entry by young staff members all color coordinated in red and white. Lending a hand were Rickel, Karima, Kelyce and Brianna. I was handed my red & white flag by Kelyce, the youngest of the bunch, with such enthusiasm accompanied by a wide smile ... obviously proud to be helping. Way too cute! I placed my bag down in the care of Judy, one of the many family/friend of the "Under The Trees" ladies, and I watched in amusement as she managed the door with finesse and grace ... clearly, but nicely informing a few name droppers that their names had to be on a her list in order to gain entry. As I made my way through the already crowded backyard, I heard the sweet sound of the iron coming from the Trinbago Massive Rhythm Section. Those guys were knocking up a storm. Everyone was vibezin' to the rocking session by DJ Anonymous. Alongside him on stage was Giselle D' Wassi One doing her thing on the mic.
I couldn't help noticing the red lanterns hanging in the trees. I had to ask myself how the HECK did they get up there? Lol! Not for nothing, but the decor was spectacular!!! No fireworks needed in this backyard. I just had to inquire about the person responsible for this breathtaking display and it was no surprise to me to find out it was Natalie Lamming (Sugarcane) and her crew's ingenious creation. You go girrrl!!! I noticed the music was building to a jam session mood, so I made an executive decision to make my way to the food tent to get me a bite to eat before the pace pick up some more. I was served by Marcia's mom, Janice, and close friends/supporters of the promoters. The food was delicious, and I definitely got my eat on. My belly was full, my headache was gone and crowd was at a nice pace. It's now 7:00 pm and the place was packed to capacity and it became increasingly difficult to maneuver through the thick crowd. It was around 7:45pm when I heard Giselle announcing that Dr. Wax was on. The sun had just set. All I could say was WOW! The lighting under trees was breathtaking, casting a warm glow on the faces of the people in the crowd. I felt like I was under the trees at The Normandie Hotel in Trinidad. 8:45pm, and the iron men were still jamming ... like those guys don't get tired. Up next was Sounds 4 Life on the one's & two's. He had the crowd going. Wassi One was then joined by Vibesman Redman on the mic, as they took turns inciting the crowd. I checked my watch and it was now 10:00pm. But wait, I though the party was 12:00 pm to 8:00pm? Well there were no complaints. Everyone was having a time! I secretly hoped thatI had enough memory on the card, yes! Lol! When they announced Lyrikal was in the house, the crowd went wild. His performance was insane. He was joined on stage by Da Ma$tamind, who also made the crowd even more hyped. When I thought the performances were over, Lyrikal announced that a surprise guest was in the house. Out came none other than General Grant, who had the crowd in a frenzy!! He sang some of his old hits that made us all lose it! D' Shot Call .... All I have to say is Under the Trees gets a thumbs up from TJJ. Thanks to Sharon and Marcia. We love you. Great gob ladies!!! ==================================== |
