Date: Tuesday 2nd June 2009 Location: Hyatt Regency Hotel. Port-Of-Spain, Trinidad W.I. Promotions: Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery Tonight is closing night for Fashion Week 2009. The five day event held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel was ending on a Tuesday, and the closing theme for the night was called "On the Waterfront". Dont get confused however, the event was not going to take place on the waterfront downstairs, it was just the nights theme ... lol. Hope no one got mixed up with that thief head! The magnificent finale started off with designer Francis Henry who displayed clothing for the rainy season from umbrellas to overcoats, glam'd with beautiful accessories. Shurnel, who was up next, had former Miss Trinidad and Tobago Valene Maharaj in one of his fitted grey dresses. His couture line represented bright and bold colors. Also GQS Genuine Quality Style, Saleem and Concept Studio did a wonderful job. But the show stopper and most talked about fashions came from Calvin Southwell, who stunned us with old fashion like swimwear with a modern twist. He had polka dots, frilly and high waste bikinis. The men swimsuits had the ladies in awe, the male models really know how to send us women in a frenzy with there skimpy, tight but just right beach wear ... lol!!
Mario Lewis Concept started with a young lady on a bicycle wearing a surgical mask. The clothing line ranged from dressy to casual shorts of various styles and bags to match along with creative pattern jerseys just for the right occasion. As the show came to an end patrons seemed pleased. I think that the overall event was very successful as designers both local and regional had a change to showcase their work and promote themselves, so that we Caribbean people can start to wear more of our local designs. Their clothing and designs definitely got wide exposure, even on an international stage as well. The Internet is a powerful advertising tool and tons of electronic media was present.
Closing night went on a bit longer than the previous 4 nights, but most didnt complain. It was full entertainment the whole way through. TJJ is definitely looking forward to this annual event, and come 2010, we are sure it's going to be bigger and better. Special thanks to the TTFF committee ... it was a pleasure covering the event this year.
P.S. Look out for TJJ TV exclusive coverage of this 5 night gala. Your
