Date: Saturday 21st February 2009 Location: The Wall. 45 Old Broad Street. London UK Promotions: Babash Events Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery It's Carnival Saturday night.. eight degrees.. and we puttin' on coat and scarf to head to a Carnival fete ... hmmm! Anything wrong with that picture?? That's right for those of us left behind in LONDON.. lol.. Babash Events have promised us The Alternative Carnival Saturday night with some simple Caribbean fun! We had the preview (TranscenDance Preview), so now we off to sample the real thing. Babash promised no line.. that's what we got. They promised you won't pay extra after a certain time.. and that's what we got (in fact we were at the door and some people got in for less because it was so late in the night ... kudos Babash!! Kudos!!) Sweet and simple.. when yuh reach yuh reach. TJJ reach in the city minutes after 11pm, still wishing somehow we might have a Breakfast Party to head to after! Vallllllleee!!!! (see D'Original Vale Breakfast Party 2009 coverage) Oh well, Trinidad Carnival 2010!!!! Tonight's venue is a new venture for Babash. The Wall, typically an after work wine bar for city boys and girls, but tonight it's in for some Carnival jamishness! The venue was spread over three floors... the main floor being in the middle with stairs at each end to reach the top floor with a mezzanine style balcony. So if you choose to chill and gape at the beautiful people sweating and gyrating downstairs you could. Although why would you??!! ... it's Carnival!!
Drinks were easy to get hold of .... although a lil expensive, but say what ..... no credit crunch when it's Carnival!!! There was a bar on the main floor and another upstairs where chef George was serving food whole night for the hungry revellers. Everything seemed to be well organised and flowing. At 11pm, the venue was still a little empty, but by midnight the whole place was full and the jamming had begun. Babash promised live streaming straight from T&T courtesy of 94.1 FM Boom Champions we transcended!!! Right!! We love it.. that's the closest we gonna get!!! And we must say the music was excellent. For the first time this year in London we felt like we were getting plenty 2009 Carnival tunes!!! People "Tusty" ... they swear they "Not Drunk", they "Ravin" ... they "Won't Stop" and the "Obsessive Winers" gonna "Meet Super Blue"!! The rest of the night, the music was provided by Che in de Mixx and Vendetta Sounds, who gave us Soca nonstop. Big up Che for the lil' back in times session ... nothing beats the "Sugar Bum Bum"!!! The crowd was versatile.. nothing wrong with a set of grown people wining down the place. Man with woman, woman with woman, a whole group jam up together ... TJJ even get caught in a jamishness sandwich!! At 3am, lights on.. say goodbye.. thanks for coming!! We left jamming with the "Heavy T" bumper. We out ... no Breakfast Party to head to, but some good Caribbean fun from Babash for those of us left behind. A sweet little taste of T&T Carnival in London But we gotta say... next year, Trinidad for sure!! Beth for the TJJ fam
