Date: Friday 30th January 2009 Location: The Shade. Tobago, W.I. Promotions: The Shade Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery The Zen Nightclub of Tobago! Everyone knows that The Shade is the #1 spot to party in Tobago. In the beginning a carrot shed, demolished after an unfortunate incident; then a fire proof Shade; to having a welcoming booth; and now a spanking new VIP/Stage area and the first electronic bar system in the Caribbean - this hot nightspot is continually reinventing itself. Tonight, things are different. Partygoers would have the choice of the regular general downstairs vibe or the spanking new VIP lounge area upstairs with great ambiance. A short walk over to the nightclub a lil' past midnight, and it was the typical scene outside with cars all around the nearby roads. There was one admission line with two separate prices. A orange wrist band and you're part of the exclusive VIP/lounge experience for the night. The vibes done start with the double R unit (Rapid Response) pelting big tunes. And with Lil Wayne's "Got Money" pumping, I knew tonight was going to be niceness as I checked out the seen, camera in one hand and a drink already in the next!
Time to head upstairs. Now it's no longer the usual backdoor entrance - the staircase is located on the left side of the bar ... sweet. What was formerly known as the roof of the bar is still the roof but, it's now extended and has a dance floor. There were couches located on both sides of the VIP, and we were told it would soon be rented as booths for V.VIP patrons. The DJ set is position in the back, with the mic man watching down on the crowd and the selector waiting on his signal to throw the next tune (it's definitely not the best place to put the DJ as they are unable to seeing the crowd's reaction). With the front view made of fine hand crafted lumber overlooking the crowd beneath, a complementary bar serving champagne surely made this event auspicious. Next stop, we checking out the new extended bar. Installed by SYNE Barber International, it's the first bar in the region to be done like this. Beverage bottles all turned upside down on rubber tubes, secured by a glass case and fed from a pump, are dispensed through an electronic handheld dispenser, which is connected to the cash register (no need to pour from a bottle again, and I feel drinks go be exactly one shot per serving). We hope it have complementary drinks on the side for TJJ! There was live entertainment for the reopening, as Bajan artist Peter Ram serenaded the ladies with "Pumping". Like most artists, Ram loves crowd reaction, so he had to get all up in the mix. Leaving the VIP, he headed straight downstairs into the crowd to buss his big 2008/9 track "Tight", and even got a flex from a BBW in a white pants! Party swinging, TJJ in the VIP snapping, and everything nice. Even we boy Biggie Irie up in the dance chillin. We mingled until the DJ buss the Ghostbusters theme song ... our signal to rally as we catching the first flight in the morning back to Trini to continue the Carnival madness. Folks, book your booth in the new VIP/lounge at The Shade in advance .... Plymouth Jazz soon come. D'Young Juice |
