Downtown, Toronto Promotions: Dr. Jay "De Soca Prince" Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery It's time for the TORONTO TRADITION - DR. JAY'S RETURN FETE! Greetings everyone, this is DR. JAY and I'm going to give TRINI JUNGLE JUICE the EXCLUSIVE run-down as to what took place at the big fete! Whether you were fortunate enough to reach sweet T&T for Carnival or you were stuck dealing with the dread winter in Toronto, for the past 14 years there has only been ONE DESTINATION for everyone to reach as soon as Trinidad Carnival finished - THE RETURN FETE. All roads lead to the Kool Haus and people were lining up from early to make sure they were some of the first to get inside to experience this one-of-a-kind fete. One thing in particular that everyone looks forward to is the lineup of artists that are fresh from mashin' up de biggest fetes in Trinidad. Before I flew out, I locked down IWER GEORGE, TC & ZIGGY RANKING. Toronto was hype and ready to see this trio flatten Kool Haus. Then I added St. Lucia's RICKY T to make up for his missed performance at SOCA OR DIE 9 in November. The stage was set, and tickets were selling like shark & bake at Maracas Beach.
As I got came back home to Toronto after an amazing Carnival, I had to restock the outlets with RETURN FETE tickets as we were approaching sold out status. With about 5 days left till the big day, I received the bad news. ZIGGY RANKING could not make it anymore. Unbeknownest to me, he had another gig in Grenada the following day and thought the flight back would have arrived in time. So with less than a week to go, I had to organize work permits, book flights on one of the busiest times of the year and see who was even available to come up and perform. I can't lie. I was stressed. But I'm also blessed, and I was not only able to get one artist, but I confirmed TWO. The ladies' man ZAN from the HD camp came to "Hold You Down" while you "Slip Away" "Out On De Road"; plus one-half of the duo that brought us "Rum & Roti" - MA$TAMIND - made his Toronto debut. Speaking of Toronto, our very own SLAMMER CUTTER also performed and had the crowd singing along to his big hit "Hangover". Ah tell yuh, is now ah catch it!! I have to big up all the DJ's who had the crowd winin' from beginning to end with sweet Soca and some wicked Reggae as well - from the KOS family, MARXMAN, SOCA SWEETNESS, EMAN & DIRTY DEZ; alongside JESTER, DJ CHIEF, DJ BASS (from 89.5fm's Worldwide and Island Breeze radio shows respectively) and my bredren DJ SPICE (reigning Int'l DJ of the Year) also came and level the place. It was one of those special nights were everything fell in place. All the artists mash up the place in their own unique way and I have to thank everyone who helped me behind the scenes to make the RETURN FETE a huge success. Speaking of success, FAY ANN had a very successful 2K9 Carnival, ent? She won International Soca Monarch, Groovy Soca Monarch, People's Choice and Road March ... all while 8 months pregnant! I am very proud to be the chosen promoter to bring their first performance to Toronto since the birth of their beautiful daughter SYRI LYONS ALVAREZ. Yes, FAY ANN, BUNJI & ASLYUM BAND are all coming on the Victoria Day Long Weekend - Saturday May 16th 2009. Better organize yuh tickets from early! Doh fret, yuh dun know that TJJ will have the inside scoop - AYE AYE AYE!!! Musically
