Forever Priceless

Aright allyuh, there are a couple things you need to know BEFORE you go to a Rachel Price show.

1) She name is Pricey. She will answer to it
2) She go real cuss
3) She go talk about her anatomy
4) She go talk about her sexual exploits
5) She go talk about stuck up people
6) She go talk about her weight

If you are not into ANY of those things, DON’T GO! Stay home with a rented copy of “The Notebook”. BUT if you don’t easily offend, go early and get a good view. You don’t have to be frightened to be in the front row either, she have enough to talk about besides your outfit or whatever.

The show at Woodford Café was somewhat of a specific experience though... mostly due to the fact that a blackout in practically the entire west side of Trinidad caused Pricey to put on her make up by candlelight (or so she claimed) and be real late, like more than an hour. We waited. We drank in the meantime, and limed, some dined (I don’t think anyone left) and when she arrived, decked out in green, she opened the show with a tirade about the commess. Well done, you could say we were open to discussing it. It is unfortunate that there isn’t a comedy club in Trinidad where Rachel would have benefitted from a real stage area, with a spotlight (etc.) but big up to Woodford for providing a willing space and accommodating as best they can.

Now, some comedians might try and ease the audience into “harsher” material but not Madam Price, 4 minutes flat and she was already cussing. Rachel is funny, and she knows when to buss her trademark high pitch squeals. She gives you insight along with her “bawdy” comments and towards the end of the show lots of physical humour. Watching her imitation of big men skanting (spell that someone, scyanting?) made me yearn for a ghetto bram.

My only real criticism is that the show went on a bit long, could be that the late hour took a toll on everyone or maybe she gave an extra long set to make up for the waiting. Dunno. I do know that Rachel remains “Priceless”.
