Date: Tuesday 27th January 2009 Location: Zen Nightclub. Port-Of-Spain, Trinidad Promotions: Priceless Entertainment Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery On Tuesday night we joined several local icons including legendary mas man Peter Minshall, former Miss Universe Janelle Penny Commissiong-Chow (photo) and entertainer Bill Trotman (photo) to witness Rachel Price in her element at her full-length stand up comedy show entitled "Priceless". In true Pricey style, her show was rife with political picong, but she touched on all aspects of life in sweet (or not so sweet all the time) T&T as we know it including race, class, crime and of course sex! Nothing is taboo for Ms. Price as indicated by MC Tweez in his disclaimer before the headline act took to the stage. The opening act, Trinidad born/Canada based Jean Paul delivered an entertaining set that portrayed the humorous side of his Caribbean-centric Canadian experience. He kept the audience well entertained with his anecdotes about life in Canada that were peppered with spot on accents and impersonations. After a brief introduction, a super slim Rachel Price made her way through the audience to the dancehall track "Go Rachel" and wasted no time getting down to business, commenting first on her own weight loss and her fabulous Ferragamo heels (photo). On a bare stage with only a cosquel stool as a prop, Rachel had the audience cracking up with her frank, no holds barred descriptions of her entertaining and dramatic life. Her set included a comedic account of a robbery and a short film entitled "My friend Ashleia" about an evening with a clueless friend.
Any Pricey fan knows that it is the combination of her raw and raunchy delivery with an almost innocent effervescence that makes her infectious. You might feel a little naughty or politically incorrect for laughing at the jokes but you laugh all the same. Even at the instructions for ladies on how to use gummy bears and ice in intimate settings ... use your imagination. Her conversational manner makes her seem effortlessly funny and also allows for glitches such as her minor wardrobe malfunction, which she took in her stride and of course continued to joke while Tweez helped her to strap back up. Rachel finished off the evening by welcoming to the stage Skinny Fabulous, the reigning Road March and Party Monarch King of St. Vincent after endorsing Fay-Ann Lyons for our own Road March 2009. The audience left on a high note as they chipped out of the venue while Pricey and Skinny wined on the stage to his hit "Head Bad". Teekay for the TJJ Fam |
