Date: Friday 6th February 2009 Location: Pier I. Chaguaramas, Trinidad Promotions: ZEN Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery Fog in de air, we in de gear, let go de Nitrogen! So we're back in Pier 1 for the Carnival season does anyone know if they selling any shares for Pier 1? Howard call we nah! After passing about 3 security check points, we were on the inside. Wait, are we inside Zen? The entrance was nicely lit with small trees and pretty water fountains, with Buddha statues. To date, we think Zen nightclub owner, Johnny Soong, is the only person able to create the same indoors settings of a nightclub outdoors and in massive venues too (we talking about outdoor venues that holding thousands). Now that we've given jack his jacket, let's go on inside and see what's on and poppin'. It's the usual line-up of sponsors with all those carnival trinkets and goodies for partygoers, along with a couple of alcohol beverage vendors promoting their drinks. It's actually a very weird feeling for us going to any non all-inclusive fetes now. The very thought of having to buy drinks and food in a party is absurd, and this drink chits thing we don't business. Promoters should just charge an extra $100-$200, and at least have free beers, rum and vodka keep the party vibes going. Wha allya say?
3 big bands on the cast - Kes The Band, Destra & her Band and Machel Montano HD. Once again, we missed the first band. Kees, we sorry dread. Like we need to send a memo out to all promoters that still putting Kees to perform 1st "Kes The Band is no longer an opening act!" The show moved along with the HD band in 2nd place to perform. Now for some reason we believe that Destra was supposed to grace the stage after Kes The Band, but you'll know how things go down in this lil' town. Machel came out of the gates in full hype to the hot beat of "Fire On The Floor" (featuring Lil Jon and Pitbull) ... we're always happy to see when HD mix things up since we follow them for the entire year. After jokingly (well, we're not 100% sure if he was joking) buffing Soong for his lack of timing with delivering all the special effects, Montano still managed to stir up a frenzy amongst fetegoers with 2009 favourite "Ravin", as the nitrogen slowly but surely immersed the Pier 1 crowd. Again, the blasting techno music mixed with the soca while watching glow sticks sway from side to side was pore raising - memories of our 2007 Amnesia coverage of HD's "Light It Up" performance. Machel gave us a taste of latest release "Wild Antz" before exiting. As Destra and band got ready to rock out, a large number of partygoers made their way to the exits. It's a weird concept to see people leaving a fete before it's done especially at Carnival time! But, the show must go on. We heard that Destra was going to be filming live for her soon to be released music video, so of course, TJJ still up in the mix. Garcia gave a solid set as she continued her "Bacchanal" theme for the year. TJJ's Original Lime Flavor was in town for the weekend, so we vibe-sing!! He was M.I.A for most of the night, so we could only hope that he was actually working, working and not wining, wining! TJJ TV continued filming for our new TV series "You, TJJ and Carnival" and ran into Orlando based Caribbean band, Crossovah at the end of the fete. Large up fellas... still waiting to get your music video. Ladies First 2009 this rounds had lots of mixed reviews some said too many kiddies in the fete some said that it was too crowded others (mainly the fellas) loved all of the eye candy so we're not trying to call this one. Zen Signature events continues to deliver a high standard and will remain to be on our "TJJ Fam Attending" list. See you guys @ Bacchanal Wednesday! Nice everytime, ==================================== |
