Longing to Get On Bad!

Well after a rehl long week at work I was "TUSTY" for a good fete, not just the regular, same ole fete but one to remember. Yuh kno, the carnival tan lines fading away, the memories of carnival slowly moving to the back of the brain, the credit card bills coming in with charges you made from el Peco, but the weather in D.C getting nice so I waan get on bad and have a time. 'Escape Saturdays' featuring BLAXX hosted by Basement Knok'ers Ent. & DT Nation, I have to say, delivered me just that.

So I reach Café Asia around 11pm and was pleasantly surprised to see a nicely formulating line outside filled with some beautiful young ladies, some familiar faces and some new, but all dressed nicely. "Could this be the fete I was longing for?" I remembered saying to myself, and after entering the modern, ever chic restaurant turn lounge, Café Asia I was definitely hoping it was.

The venue was modern and chic. I mean, there was only one restroom which accommodated both gents & ladies. Now if that isn't modern, I doh kno what is! Definitely something new ... I definitely like this venue.

Once on the inside, the music was pumping HARD so already yuh kno I heading to the bar (can't start the fete without finding uncle Johnnie). The bar wasn't no big scene seeing it still early and people still coming. So I get my Johnnie & Red Bull and after big'n up the DC DJ's (Sprang International, DJ Hazzard and Super Slice), I proceeded to enjoy the music.

Around 12am the place getting packed and it was time to see the 2009 costume presentation for I.C.E Carnival, "Legend of the Rainbow Warriors". This was when I first get a glimps of the "Heavy T" bumpers. YES, the Heavy T bumpers come out in full force to get on BAD with BLAXX. And it seem like they had a long week too, because they formulated right in front of the stage area ready for Blaxx and wasn't moving. It was like they mark dey territory and if yuh wanted to pass yuh had to wine yuh way round. I remember one even getting on stage to test out the wining skills of one of the male models (wonder how his back doing now). I remember her even demonstrating her strength by lifting the poor fella up too.

By now, the bar kinda crowed, so for that other drink I looking to see who I know by the bar that could help out. Lucky me.. I find someone. So now I rehl good and just in time cause Blaxx being introduced. So I wine my way back up front and the performance start round 1am. If yuh see the Heavy T bumpers getting on!! Dem girls was rehl having a good time and it seemed like Blaxx was fully enjoying it.

So Blaxx performing and all I hear is, "Who want to come on stage and sing? Yuh know if I wasn't holding this camera & didn't have a bad leg I would have been up there ... fuh true! smile But after a second of hesitation, a brave young lady gets up there. She seemed a little shy but once she was up there she did fairly well. Then another patron gets up on stage. He was a little livelier and he definitely got the crowd excited. I was thinking "Aye aye, like this man do this before!" but the highlight of the night was when Blaxx ask for another female to get up on stage and another brave soul (who's name I would not mention) get on stage. Blaxx told her to say "Mr. DJ .. Run de track!!" She looked at the DJ (kinda like she knew him) and, gave the word and on perfect timing, not missing a beat, almost like she been practicing, she started, "I doh kno bout yuh but I come here to get on BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD...." And the place mash up!! If yuh see people go crazy. The Heavy T bumpers bouncing down the light loads, almost running poor me over in excited. The people on the balcony throwing rehl signals ... I even saw one of the DJs with a big smile. She did it like she was a natural performer.

So after the amazing performance by both Blaxx and the brave souls that got up on stage, the partying continued on a high energy level thanks to Sprang Int'l until 3am.

At the end of the night, it seemed like I wasn't the only one longing to get on bad. I enjoyed the night and it seemed like others did as well. It definitely was a good launch event and will be remembered until the next.

Reppin' the TJJ fam,
Al
