Date: Sunday 24th May 2009 Location: Tommy Bahama Beach. Miami, FL Promotions: Yohance Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery Yuh know big when you need only be referred to by one name like 'Cher', 'Pele' or 'Prince'. Well when you can promote an event with one word ... 'Chill', describe the same event with one word ... that party was real 'Chill' or answer any questions about the event with one word .... I'm not missing 'Chill' again .... yuh know it BIG!! That sums it up. There is no need for superlatives like 'Ultra' or 'Super' ... no exalted claims of exclusivity .... no littering of the street with thousands of flyers. This is one event that as soon as tickets go on sale, they sell out!! Often, one don't even know where the party is going to be held. But there's no doubt that it will be a quality event, so that doesnt even matter. Chill is held twice a year. We attended the last one Thanksgiving weekend 2008, when there was a storm pelting down, and folks showed up in droves ... with many ladies still in long dresses and some smart ones in galoshes. For Memorial Weekend 2009 there was a new venue at the brand new Tommy Bahama Beach Club at Gulfstream Race Park. The new and improved venue now has a concrete floor, gone is the sand on the ground which was great considering all the rain that had been falling in South Florida.
As we arrived (at what can be considered a reasonably early time), there was still daylight. And since this was an outdoor venue for a day fete, we wanted to maximize our time in the dance. The line was already long, but moving along, so it wasn't too long before we were on the inside. The first thing we noticed was the large rectangular bar in the middle under the huge Tiki Hut. Okay that was the second thing!!! If yuh see beautiful ladies to the left and to the right!! So back to the bar! We pulled up ... got our commemorative Chill cup and filled it with drinks .... over and over again throughout the night. With drinks in we hand, we ready to mingle!! We will surely have to pass back by the Truck Stop food station later on. Peter T was on the one's and two's, so you know the music is nice. At this hour, most folks were chilling and just vibzing. DJ Mario also was in the lineup, along with Richie D. As the night progressed, people started gathering in front the deejay area and that became the defacto dance floor. There was much less posing and lots more moving and shaking. This is certainly one event where if you ask anybody they will tell you that a good time was had by all, and everyone is eagerly awaiting the next one at Thanksgiving weekend. Now this is a day fete and tomorrow is a holiday, so that means we're on our way to another event ... who say Eden? Party McFly |
