Date: Sunday 5th July 2009 Location: The Village. Ralph Avenue. Brooklyn, NY Promotions: DJ Bird Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery Bottle Fest, Bottle Fest, Bottle Fest! Where do I start? Sold Out!! (although when I first arrived, I saw slim signs of such). Parking was very worrisome as there were night regulations on Ralph Ave and you know how the NYPD thirst monsters do. Walking from the car I quickly forgot about the parking issue and felt my hips involuntarily wining to sweet sounds of soca. Once on line for entry, I was briskly searched by security. They meant business boy! Once inside, I saw a live Rhythm Section with the edges of the party packed, and a center with four brave (or drunk) girls. Too early to tell, but they looked as if they were having a blast. All guests were given their 2 bottles as promised, but they must have been drunking them like water cuz the bar was crowded ... all the time! That empty center started filling up nicely by the minute. The girls were definitely looking good. There were a couple who received my vote for "The Bootie Hall of Fame". Lawd! Good luck ladies!! Lol!
My nose started to get attracted by the sweet smoke of BBQ. I followed and there it was ... a grill bigger than I'm used too seeing with mouth watering jerk chicken. Damn! Why did I eat before coming? I figured I'd just get back to the chicken later. Moving along the edge of the party, I came across an outdoor kitchen with soup pots big enough to supply a small village. There was bake and fish and much more, all free. The liquor and food was a great combination. As late as 11:30pm, food was being prepared. Everyone definitely should have eaten good. Anyway, before I knew it, I turned my head and the place was RAM! Then it was time to get really involved. There were some gifted dancers, one in particular, did a split on the wood chips covering the floor. I will never forget you! I might even love you! Lol!! As promised Kerwin Du Bois an Baba Shanta ("2 Days Remix") took stage and I heard a guest say "They're really here!" as she made her way front and center avoiding slipping on the massive amounts of bottles on floor. As they sang their hits it wasn't long before the effects of alcohol mixed with some bad man who started fighting, disrupting the show briefly. Security was on that like stink on doo doo! Kerwin didn't appreciate it and soon left the stage, but probably stuck around to lime. The music was too hot to go home thanks to DJs Platinum Sounds, Elegance Sounds and Back to Basics. Also, we saw Scar of the Asylum Band (photo) was hanging out enjoying the fete. The party was peaking and peaking. If we were in a building the roof would have done bun off!! Luckily we were outdoors with good ventilation. Soon our night was at an end. Everyone left peacefully. Parking lot pimping began and everything was everything .... well until I needed to satisfy my craving for the jerk chicken. People were damn near on there knees begging for chicken, drool and all. One fella thought he would fight Buji to get his piece. Armed with tongs, Buji defended his chicken. Wow! I thought this chicken must be amazing! And it was! Next time I want 2 pieces!!! After attending this Bottle Fest, if I'm Miami .... you bet your bottom dollar I deh! Uptown Juice |
