Happy New Year to all we TJJ viewers! Our exclusive coverage continues.... it's the 1st event I'm covering for 2009, and we doing it in our sister isle @ The Shade once more. Big up to the entire Shade family! Just around the corner from Store Bay and the airport is 91.9 FM Soca Station. Opened about a month ago, Neil "The Boss" Iwer George decided to bring Trinibashment 91.9 FM to Tobago and call it "Tobagobashment". 100% Soca that ideally represents true Trinbago heritage and culture. So its 7:00pm and we now come from the countryside and heading to the station's launch. We inside in a one, and made a b-line for the studio where The United States of America's most historical Presidential Inauguration was being aired live. Well there was not much room in the studio, stuffed like sardines was more like it, but no sweat we make do with the facility. Everyone was on the inside, which including Iwer and his brother Devon George (who actually manages the station), the Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly Orville London, radio personalities from Trinibashment CG and Aisha, and the "Protector" a calypsonian in the business before I born. The proceedings began with each member giving their contribution and welcoming this one of a kind radio station to the shores of Tobago. A little jingle done by the "Protector" himself closed this part of the session. At this point the guests socialized and enjoyed complementary drinks and eats.
Next stop was The Shade night club for the official party, but we keeping track of the inauguration because it's broadcasting live on 91.9 FM. Well the fete start already, and it swinging for so. Dave Sampson, Princess Adana, Marlon D Manager (son of Iwer George), Fire Fusion, Natural Dan, Kasie and Cedona all lined up one by one to give us a taste of lyrics and talent. Now once TJJ reach The Shade, we must look for the swanky girls and give them a specialty TJJ wine and snap snap. All of a sudden, music cut and hype build as "The Boss" himself, Iwer, hit the stage and mash up with "Fete After Fete". It was tune after tune just firing! The "Rum and Roti" man Patch, and Ziggy Rankin came to the stage to "wine wine wine wine ..." because "We Like It"! And to add to the spectacle of the pyrotechnics is water on the crowd from the stage. Now that is performance! The performances were done in about 45 mins but the people wanted more, so the guys on the one's and two's cranked up the music, bussing "Tip tip on your toes". We were a lil' confused, but dat's no scene ... Iwer eh bend for the dancehall. According to him, them boys playing Soca all the time at the station so they break way when the reach on the outside. Party ram and still going, next thing you know is already 5:30am, not to mention the fete still broadcasting live on 91.9 FM. Okay, time to sleep, since we must catch a little sand before we head out! Ah must big up Black Culture Sound System and all the new workers of 91.9 FM Tobagobashment. From Bago again, |
