Date: Saturday 20th June 2009 Location: Six Flags. Atlanta, GA Promotions: CCB International, Trinifly Promotions Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery During the 21st Atlanta Carnival Celebrations this year, the streets were littered with flyers of an event that would turn out to be true to all the hype surrounding it. CCB Int'l and Trinifly Promotions, promoters of the Machel Montano HD spectacular last summer @ Six Flags New Jersey (view coverage), tried their hands again. This time at the Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta. The only thing ... it's not Machel! This time around they brought Bajan sensation Alison Hinds. In anticipation, TJJ linked up with Trinifly early, who by the way, was excited to have us there. And for me, an avid Alison Hinds follower, JoyJuice was ready for the challenge. So we got to the location early, where Six Flags staff member Chris greeted us. He took us to the park and led us to the back stage area. Once there, we were met by Emily who ensured that we had everything that was needed as far as all access is concerned. Thanks Emily! The stage area was huge. It was well managed and structured. The concert audience area was a nice open area with prime setting. Filled with blue seats, the only question would be that once people reached and decided to get up and party, where would they do that? Well, just remember you are dealing with Caribbean people!! (keep this in mind as we go on)
Everything was in place for a fantastic show. The only flaw was that many folks did not know how to get to the entrance, as Six Flags is a massive venue. This however, was a minor setback. On the forefront, the Aunt Dellia's had the jerk chicken on lock as the patrons began flowing into the concert area by the numbers. Maybe not as much to fill up the concert area, but enough to give the promoters a good reason to come back again. The true believers and supporters of Caribbean culture never let any event slip by them ... and going to ah Ms. Paloma Ding Ding Ding show is no different! The Hype Band, a small Soca band from Atlanta, came on stage first to tease us a little bit. Not bad at all. They did well. A few local DJ's gave us a lil' taste of their skills and reminded us why Soca music is the best music in the world. 'Mr. Never Absent' DJ Stephen, added a little more heat to the already 95 degree weather in Atlanta before 'Mr. Dependable', DJ Choice One fired up music from all parts of the Caribbean. Always happy to see him, local disc jockey and co-MC for the evening, Mr. Jason Walker, had the pleasure of introducing the live artists for the evening. Next up was Vincy's 'Mr. Turn Me On' Kevin Lyttle. Kevin is a singer! He is a good performer and great with the females. A certain plus in these times. Though both Blaxx of the Roy Cape All Stars (with 2009 hit "Tusty") and Pumpa were carded to perform next, they were absent. But guess what? I can assure you that they were not missed as another favourite was getting ready to hit the stage. I immediately ran to the backstage area for a photo opportunity with the Soca Queen. Niiiiicccceeeee!!! As Alison hit the stage, the "Obsessive Winer" did not in anyway, form or fashion disappoint. With word that her show in Tampa Bay Carnival on June 14th, 2009 was fantastic (view coverage), the people of Atlanta were not expecting nor getting anything less. Another solid performance by Hinds. She's definitely amongst the best Soca singers in the world. With another successful event under their belt, CCB Int'l and Trinifly Promotions are continuing to set a good trend hosting the Caribbean Summer Concert Series. Hector/Ryan, good job with the organization. We're looking forward to the Family Daycation featuring Fayann, Bunji, Rupee & others at Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ on July 11th. With
